Bristol City’s summer spending spree is in full swing, as the Robins embark on a new era under new manager Michael Skubala, while their pursuit of a League One star continues.

Things at Bristol City haven’t gotten much quieter since the season finished.

The appointment of James Ellis as sporting director coincided with the following appointment of Skubala as Lincoln City’s new head coach, succeeding Roy Hodgson, and they have been particularly active in the transfer window.

Sam Tickle, Gibson Yah, Sam Greenwood, Jed Wallace, Lisav Eissat, and Bradley Collins have all signed on the dotted line, bringing their total acquisitions thus far to six, but that looks to grow into seven very soon with the impending £4 million addition of Plymouth Argyle forward. Lorent Tolaj.

Tolaj will compete for top spot with Emil Riis at Ashton Gate, but Skubala’s search for attacking reinforcements does not look to be over, as a new bid for a long-term target has been turned down.

Bristol City saw another bid for Leyton Orient’s Dom Ballard rejected, but they are set to continue their chase.

Skubala should prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer, given the departures of Sinclair Armstrong, Harry Cornick, and Delano Burgzorg, as well as Anis Mehmeti in January.

Greenwood and Wallace will also provide another option for the Robins in the final third, and despite Tolaj’s probable departure, more effort is needed in that area of the game.

After scoring 23 goals for Leyton Orient in League One last season, former Southampton striker Dominic Ballard was named Bristol City’s priority target to become Skubala’s new star forward.

Ballard, 21, had a fantastic year on a personal level despite Orient’s troubles, and he might be on the move this summer, with Football League World earlier reporting that the East London club has slapped a £5 million price on his head.

The Robins have had previous bids for the forward rebuffed, and now, according to Alan Nixon’s Patreon, a deal for £4 million plus extras has been turned down, with their most recent offer still falling short of Orient’s valuation.

Richie Wellens’ team will not make the same mistake with Ballard after letting Ethan Galbraith join Swansea City for just £1.5 million last summer and seeing his current £10 million move to Stoke City one year later.

Nixon also claims that this latest bid will not be the last, with the Robins eager to sign their man despite the arrival of Tolaj.

Bristol City and Skubala are not playing about this summer when it comes to fully overhauling the team at Ashton Gate, while their prime objective remains out of reach for the time being.

Despite several setbacks at this point, Bristol City and Skubala will most likely remain confident in their pursuit of Ballard and completing the transaction.

They will be well aware of Orient’s £5 million asking price and are only testing the waters to see whether a cheaper offer will be accepted, which they are constantly learning is not the case.
