Arsenal receives an X-rated message deducting points while Man City wins the Premier League despite 115 charges.
News about Arsenal while Everton fans express their opinions about this season’s financial drama and Premier League point deduction
Irony was evident at the Emirates Stadium as Everton supporters chanted slogans disparaging the Premier League. On the last day of the season, Manchester City emerged victorious once more, leaving Arsenal disappointed; however, an investigation into some of the circumstances leading up to this result will persist.
Prior to the game, Premier League CEO Richard Masters made a public statement regarding his choice to watch Arsenal play Everton instead of being at the Etihad Stadium for City’s eventual four-peat victory. Few will be pleased with his response.
Masters is a crucial player who frequently has to answer to many unanswered questions regarding City’s ongoing league case involving 115 charges. Though it’s the last one left, it’s by no means the only one he’s had to discuss in public this year.
Many people are not happy with the results that Pep Guardiola’s team and those that came before it—Everton, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, and Leicester—have achieved thus far. Points have been deducted for violations of the profitability and sustainability rules (PSRs), and more are promised.
If City is found guilty of violating various financial regulations, the league may experience league-wide repercussions never seen before. Everton supporters undoubtedly think this to be the case after being forced to play by two sets of sporting sanctions.
Their message on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium couldn’t be more clear. They sang, “You can shove your points deductions up your a**e,” from the opposing side. The phrase of the afternoon was “Premier League, corrupt as f**k.”
The feeling endures whether or not they knew about Masters. Supporters have expressed their dissatisfaction with City’s lack of action, while those who were penalized have expressed their outrage at the ruling.
While it could have easily been the fans of Arsenal responding to City for allowing them to continue operating as usual despite the unprecedented accusations made against them, Everton instead made a dig at the establishment and spoke out from a position of strength.
