Because of their personal relationship with Erik ten Hag, Manchester United is interested in signing Edson Alvarez from West Ham; nevertheless, the move is uncertain due to an injury to the Mexico international.

Edson Alvarez, a midfield target for Manchester United, had an injury during the Copa America, potentially forcing them to alter their transfer plans.

Alvarez was coached by Erik ten Hag while he was at Ajax, and he has been connected to a West Ham summer transfer. With four years remaining on his contract, he signed a £35 million deal to join the Hammers in August, following Declan Rice’s departure to Arsenal. Despite this, he is drawing interest immediately.

The 26-year-old sustained a major injury at the Copa America and is currently overseas with Mexico on international duty. With a hamstring injury, he hobbled off the pitch after 30 minutes of their 1-0 victory over Jamaica in Houston.

After leaving the pitch with tears in his eyes, Mexico’s manager Jaime Lozano informed his captain of the seriousness of the injury. He stated, “We’re going to wait a few days to do some testing on him and to know exactly what’s going on.”

“He is really significant. He knows the game well and is a leader. He has a significant role both in the locker room and on the pitch. You pay attention to him when he speaks because he has a way with words. We were all dealt a serious blow by this.”

Alvarez made 42 appearances for West Ham in all competitions last season, scoring two goals and dishing out two assists. David Moyes was replaced by Julen Lopetegui at the Hammers, and this summer’s transfer uncertainty has been exacerbated by the manager switch.

During a Copa America press conference, he was questioned about his interest in transfers. He added, “I’m focused on what I have to do. That’s all I can tell you.” “I am aware that the Copa America is a really significant competition in which everyone is essentially watching. There will be time later to determine what exists or does not.”

Alvarez is apparently valued by West Ham at more over £51 million, which is perhaps far more than United can afford. Ten Hag has been informed that his summer transfer window budget of just £50 million is limited, albeit he may increase it by selling Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho.

United’s top priorities are other areas, where they need a striker and a center-back because Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial left after their contracts expired. Everton, who value Jarrad Branthwaite at £70 million, has already turned down a bid from the club for £35 million plus an additional £8 million in add-ons.

Another area that need improvement after finishing in seventh place in the Premier League is central midfield. Joao Neves of Benfica is another player that United is interested in, although his £104 million release clause is probably going to keep any bids from coming in.
