Reason Why England urged to drop Bukayo Saka! Ashley Cole insists Arsenal star must ‘rest’ against Slovenia as Three Lions seek morale-boosting win

Ashley Cole wants Phil Foden to take centre stage on the right flank and wants Gareth Southgate to bench Bukayo Saka from the starting eleven.

Cole desires Saka to be let go.
Hopes to see Foden start on the right side when England plays Slovenia in the last group match.

Consequently, what happened?
The Three Lions manager has been encouraged by the former Arsenal and Chelsea defender to move Phil Foden to the right and start Newcastle United wonder Anthony Gordon on the left wing. In the current Euro 2024, Foden, who was crowned Manchester City’s Player of the Season in the 2023–24 campaign, has fallen short of the hype.

The 24-year-old has had to adapt to playing on the left side because he is accustomed to playing either as a number 10 or from the right side, according to some commentators.

Saka will have to be dropped to the bench if Southgate chooses to move the City forward to a different position. Cole thinks the Gunners star may take advantage of the chance to catch some much-needed sleep, though. In England’s opening match of the tournament against Serbia, Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid, scored a goal thanks to a cross from Saka.

The former England international stated, “I feel like Foden has been unfairly dug out, so I would like to see Foden play on the right and Anthony Gordon play from the left,” in an interview with beIN Sports. Saka is still able to use it as a rest period. We already know how good Foden is, so I would like him to prove it to the world.

“I believe that he has received unjust criticism for playing out of position. Some may say, “Well, he’s a world-class player; he should be flexible.” You make a valid point, and I get it. However, I would like to see him play for Man City based on what I’ve seen.”

As they attempt to defeat Slovenia on Tuesday and go to the round of 16, Southgate’s team will want to finish the group stages on a positive note.
