Pep Guardiola, according to Jose Mourinho, will be chuckling to himself about the “mess” that is Manchester United and other Premier League teams.

After defeating Arsenal and Liverpool to win their fourth Premier League title, Manchester City extended their reign of supremacy under manager Pep Guardiola.

United finished the season in eighth place with a goal differential of -1, well behind pace even though they had defeated City in the FA Cup final.

But with Erik ten Hag’s uncertain future unfolding in public, there’s still a sense of unease at Old Trafford. Regardless of the outcome of the FA Cup final, it was expected that the Dutchman would leave, but negotiations are still going on as the Red Devils look for a definitive answer.

Ahead of the new season, all of this turmoil only works to City’s advantage, as Mourinho believes Guardiola won’t believe his luck with what’s happening to him. Mourinho gave TNT Sports the following response when asked about United: “A little improvement but more of the same I think in this moment Pep [Guardiola] laughs at the mess at other clubs.”

The Portuguese coach continued, saying of his other former teams, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, “I have no idea [why Pochettino has gone].” Chelsea… Really, I have no idea.

“Tottenham I’ve got an idea: Tottenham is constantly vying for fourth place, which would be fantastic between fourth, fifth, and sixth. Of course, they can win the Europa League the following season. You can sense that they look [to have] stability, are investing more, have an incredible club, incredible facilities, and a stunning stadium.”
