Chelsea’s transfer plans appear to be already being impacted by Enzo Maresca, as formal confirmation of his appointment as head coach is anticipated shortly. According to football.london, club executives Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley traveled to Spain earlier this week to complete the transaction.
It is anticipated that the soon-to-be former Leicester City manager will sign a contract at Stamford Bridge that will last until 2029, with several clauses still up for negotiation prior to his arrival. Given that Maresca lacks Premier League experience, Todd Boehly and company are taking a big chance with him poised to take charge.
Yet, the Blues want to follow in Arsenal’s footsteps, as Mikel Arteta is another coach who was a member of Manchester City’s coaching staff under Pep Guardiola. Maresca could push to bring Mads Hermansen and Kieran Dewsbury-Hall to west London, as the Foxes duo would fit perfectly in his system, along with five other members of his coaching staff.
Three priority positions have been made public, and Maresca has already begun to look at possible targets in light of the 44-year-old’s need for players who meet his tactical needs. The Telegraph claims that when the summer transfer window opens, Chelsea plans to add a new goalkeeper, left back, and forward.
Chelsea has been connected to several options in those areas over the past few months, with the most recent signing positioned between the posts. Multiple sources claim that Chelsea is interested in Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen and has recently requested the terms of a possible deal.
