Jordan Pickford, a long-term transfer target, may become available to Chelsea this summer, solving their goalkeeping problem. The England goalkeeper’s future is said to depend on how Everton manages their operations in an effort to alleviate their well-known financial problems.

Everton may need to sell one or two key players in order to prevent further profit and sustainability issues, even though they have confirmed their safety in the Premier League. With three years left on his deal, Pickford is one of the Toffees’ most important players.

Chelsea might use the summer transfer window to look for a new goalkeeper. Before the season began, Robert Sanchez was dropped by Brighton after he performed poorly in the months that followed his arrival.

Sanchez has been replaced by Djordje Petrovic, another acquisition made by Chelsea last year, who has done a fantastic job. Though it’s widely believed that the Blues could improve on both players, Kepa Arrizabalaga is unlikely to remain at Stamford Bridge after his loan return from Real Madrid.

As a result, Chelsea might be hoping to sign Pickford, whose status at Everton is supposedly uncertain. Fabrizio Romano says that it’s important to monitor the 30-year-old’s circumstances closely.

The former Sunderland standout hasn’t had a stint at one of the Premier League’s Big Six, despite being England’s first-choice goalkeeper since 2018. Despite sporadic connections with Chelsea and Manchester United over the years, he joined Everton in 2017 and has stayed at Goodison Park, approaching 300 appearances.

In 2018, the Sun published a report claiming that Roman Abramovich, the former owner of Chelsea, was eager to sign Pickford to replace Thibaut Courtois, who was set to join Real Madrid. Jack Butland, Pickford’s Three Lions teammate, was also being considered.

In the end, neither deal materialized. Butland spent three more years at Stoke before moving on to Crystal Palace. Arrizabalaga, who Chelsea later signed, is expected to be replaced this summer.

Arrizabalaga came to Real on loan after Courtois sustained a major knee injury during the preseason. However, the Spaniard is unlikely to be retained at the Bernabeu permanently as he has since lost his spot to Ukrainian Andriy Lunin.

The 29-year-old, who was once a £72 million acquisition for the Blues, is expected to return to Chelsea in the summer with an uncertain future. Arrizabalaga made a subtle jab at Mauricio Pochettino after signing with Real Madrid in the summer by telling Spanish media, “It’s true that Pochettino wanted me to stay.” He assured me that he trusted me and that I would play. However, I wanted a change and believed that it would be beneficial for me.
