With Celtic reaching the Champions League knockout stage for the first time in almost a decade and giving Bayern Munich a run for their money, the Hoops’ future seems promising. Is Brendan Rodgers going to be part of it? The Northern Irishman is having tremendous success in his second stay at Parkhead, but it is worth noting that his current deal expires at the end of the 25/26 season.
Given the manner in which Rodgers departed Celtic the first time, there will always be people who question his future at the club. Also, the lack of desire demonstrated during the winter transfer window has sparked some speculation.
Then there’s the success factor. Clubs around Europe would have been thrilled by Celtic’s Champions League performances this season, and some may decide to hire Rodgers.
Rodgers, as one would imagine, keeps his cards close to his chest. According to the BBC, when asked if Celtic’s progress to the Champions League knockout play-off stage would convince him to continue at Parkhead after the summer of 2026, the manager replied:
“We haven’t actually discussed that.
“We’ll always consider what’s best for Celtic. What is best for Celtic will always take precedence over individual interests.”
Brendan Rodgers offers an update on Celtic contract talks.
Rodgers has stated on multiple occasions that he intends to complete his contract with Celtic this time around. It’s unclear whether he’ll stay with the club after that.
Rodgers is an excellent manager, no doubt about that. So, the best-case scenario is that he extends his contract.
Of course, Celtic must persuade him of this, not just with words, but also through acts. Showing some ambition during the forthcoming summer transfer window may be a big step in that direction. Let’s see if they decide to do it or not.
