Birmingham City secures a multi-million pound deal ahead of Brentford and Leeds United.

Birmingham City’s ambition under Knighthead Capital Management has been clear in recent transfer windows, and many expect similar exploits in the buildup to the 2026/27 season at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

Chris Davies has been highly backed in his four transfer windows as Blues manager since his appointment two summers ago, however not all of the signings completed during that period have resulted in immediate success.

The 41-year-old was able to undertake a record-breaking window of activity in the summer of 2024, which proved to be the impetus for the club’s 111-point season as League One winners, before Birmingham faced high expectations upon their return to the Championship.

However, despite further high-profile additions, such forecasts did not come true, so the Bluenoses will be hoping for more success in the following weeks and months.

Blues are also anticipated to benefit from the EFL’s recently established Squad Cost Rules, which allow teams to spend up to 85% of their revenue, with Tom Wagner known for breaking several high-profile sponsorship agreements in B9 in recent years.

And, while some will hope that the pressing subject of finding a new director of football in place of Craig Gardner is resolved soon, it looks that the West Midlands club has made their first summer signing.

Birmingham City activated a permanent transfer clause for Girona FC loanee Jhon Solis.

During the club’s major squad reshuffle in January, which, in some ways, did not fully deliver what some were hoping for in terms of a late charge towards the Championship’s play-off places, Blues were able to bring combative Colombian midfielder Jhon Solis to St. Andrew’s on loan from Girona FC of La Liga.

At the time of Solis’ arrival in the Second City, it was widely speculated that Birmingham had the option or would be compelled to keep the 21-year-old on their books for the foreseeable future due to a clause included into the agreement worth around £6.9 million.

The necessary portion of the deal was an appearance-based clause, which would have supposedly been activated if Solis had played at least 45 minutes of action in 11 games, eventually appearing 18 times across all competitions.

Such news also included links to Premier League clubs Brentford and Leeds United, with the West London club having a long-standing interest in the guy who has also appeared in five UEFA Champions League games.

However, after talks on that front had somewhat chilled, it has now been alleged by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano via X that Solis’ move to Birmingham has been made permanent for €7 million (£6 million).

Unsurprisingly, the second-tier club is claimed to be confident in the midfielder’s abilities, with the expectation that they will only have until next week to exercise the option to buy.

Birmingham City fans will enjoy fresh Jhon Solis Transfer Update

Solis’ all-action style made him a fan favourite during his first season with the Blues, as evidenced by his celebration after scoring in a 2-1 win over Bristol City on April 25th.

As a result, with the option-to-buy clause appearing to be on the verge of expiring, the fact that a deal has been finalised will be a big comfort to everyone affiliated with the club, even if the term of the contract is unknown.

Following a 10th-place finish last season, there is a lot of expectation and pressure on Davies to produce after being sacked several times in the last year, especially with the Championship’s play-off structure expanding.

Meanwhile, this agreement may have an impact on future transfer plans, with numerous midfielders becoming the topic of incoming and leave talks at the club in recent days.
