Birmingham City have already begun their transfer business, with the goal of at least making the play-offs next season.

The Blues had a mixed return to the Championship, finishing in a respectable tenth place, despite a season that promised so much more.

Colombian Jhon Solis has already joined the West Midlands for an undisclosed amount, while Dael Fry (free) and James Beadle (loan) are other notable additions, with the latter returning from a mixed loan spell last season.

While the West Midlands club has already signed one goalkeeper, Beadle, it appears they will not stop there in the transfer market.

Birmingham City wants Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper Jonas Kersken.

Much of Birmingham City’s success last season was due to their strong backline, which includes on-loan goalie Beadle between the posts.

Chris Davies’ side conceded only 56 goals during the Championship season, trailing only Coventry City, Ipswich Town, Millwall, and Middlesbrough.

Beadle took over as Davies’ starting goalkeeper in early October, and he never looked back, making 35 league matches and keeping eight clean sheets.

While many expect the 22-year-old to be the Blues’ top scorer again next season, if the recent claims are correct, he may face stiff competition.

According to Sebastian Stafford-Bloor of The Athletic, Birmingham is one of the clubs interested in signing Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper Jonas Kersken.

The 25-year-old German shot-stopper appeared in 33 games over two years. Arminia finished 13th in the Bundesliga last season, and while he signed a contract extension in August 2025, it is unclear how long he will remain on his current contract.

Who is Blues’ target Kersken?

Born in Düsseldorf, Kersken progressed through the youth ranks of Unterrath, Baumberg, and Rot-Weiss Essen before joining reputable German club Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2019.

While he made 35 appearances for their second team, he never made a senior appearance and was loaned out to SV Meppen and Arminia Bielefeld before signing a permanent deal in the summer of 2024.

Kersken has been Arminia’s first choice goalkeeper since joining on loan, and he has spent three seasons with the club, helping them win promotion to the German second division in 2025.

Last season, the 25-year-old demonstrated his ability as a sweeper, finishing in the top 10% of goalkeepers for removing danger in 2. Bundesliga, according to Fotmob.

However, there may be some concern because he made five errors that resulted in goals, more than any other keeper in the division, and he prevented -3.5 goals.

Based on his value and statistics, one would expect he would be brought in to fight Beadle rather than take his number one shirt away.
