Santiago Solari has made a comeback to football as the head coach of Club America, having struggled at Real Madrid.
As the new manager of Club America, Santiago Solari has assumed his first coaching position following his disastrous time as Real Madrid’s manager.

Solari’s appointment for the 2021 Liga MX Clausura—this year renamed the Torneo Guard1anes 2021—was confirmed by a statement on Tuesday.

“We recognized that Solari has an ideal profile for our sports project,” stated America’s president, Santiago Banos.

“He has been able to successfully meet the demands and objectives of teams like Club America, whose only goal is the title, throughout his career as a footballer and manager.”

In the turbulent 2018–19 season that followed Madrid’s most recent Champions League victory and Zinedine Zidane’s departure, Solari took Julen Lopetegui’s place at the Santiago Bernabeu.

After serving as Castilla’s coach for the majority of his playing career, Solari, a former Argentina midfielder, was first appointed by Los Blancos in October 2018 on an interim basis.

Before leaving soon after a shock Champions League loss to Ajax, he played just 32 games until March 2019, when he won the Club World Cup. At that point, Zidane was reappointed.

Although Solari hasn’t played in a while, America has granted him a return.

The giants from Mexico hope to add to their record haul of 13 Liga MX titles after losing in the Torneo Guard1anes 2020 quarterfinals.

After an altercation with Los Angeles FC assistant coach Ante Razov during a CONCACAF Champions League semifinal loss, America fired former Mexico coach Miguel Herrera, who had won two of those titles.
