Arsenal hold talks with Joshua Kimmich as Mikel Arteta looks to beat Premier League rivals to free transfer

According to understands provided by talkSPORT, Arsenal has engaged in discussions with Joshua Kimmich regarding the possibility of a free transfer this summer.

After ten years of service to Bayern Munich, Kimmich’s contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the current season. This would mark the conclusion of his journey with the club.

Bayern Munich has reportedly withdrawn their offer of a new contract for the 30-year-old player, as was reported on Thursday.

According to reports, Kimmich has been hesitant to put pen to paper on an agreement despite the fact that negotiations have taken place over the course of the past few months.

Even though negotiations are still going on, there is a growing possibility that the German international will leave during the summer transfer window.

In preparation for the reopening of the market, Arsenal has taken the necessary steps to demonstrate their interest by engaging in discussions with Kimmich.

As a result of the expiration of their respective contracts, Jorginho and Thomas Partey are expected to leave the Gunners this summer.

Despite the fact that Kai Havertz has also played in the central midfield position, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, and Mikel Merino would continue to be their options.

According to a report that was published by talkSPORT one month ago, Arsenal has engaged in negotiations with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi at an advanced stage.

There is a possibility that the Spaniard will be one of two midfield arrivals alongside Kimmich in the summer, given that he is expected to join in a transfer worth £51 million.

However, it is also known that Liverpool and Manchester City, two of Arsenal’s competitors in the Premier League, are keeping an eye on the German player.

Both clubs are keeping a close eye on his current contract situation at Bayern, which he joined in 2015 after originally playing for RB Leipzig, another Bundesliga company.

Additionally, Kimmich is capable of playing right back, which is a position that both Liverpool and City may need to strengthen this summer. This is because Trent Alexander-Arnold is widely expected to join Real Madrid, and Kyle Walker is also expected to leave Manchester City after his loan stint at AC Milan.

Within his ten-year tenure with the Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern, the captain of the Germany national team has made a total of 426 playing appearances for Bayern.

Due to Bayern’s current position at the top of the table, he has won the German league title eight times, and it appears that he will win it for the ninth time this season.

The star player in the middle of the pitch was also a member of the team that won the Champions League in 2020 and was awarded the Defender of the Season award by UEFA.

There are 97 caps that Kimmich has won for Germany, and he is on track to reach a century of appearances for Germany in international competition this year.
