After Manchester United’s Premier League defeat to Burnley over the weekend, Alan Shearer was not amused by under-fire Erik ten Hag’s self-pitying antics.

After Manchester United’s most recent error, Alan Shearer had no patience for Erik ten Hag’s defense of his team.

United gave Burnley a share of the spoils on Saturday as they conceded more points, ending their chances of qualifying for the Champions League and jeopardizing their chances of qualifying for the Europa League against more reliable opponents.

Ten Hag found it difficult to explain why his team had not earned all three points at Old Trafford following the 1-1 draw with Vincent Kompany’s relegation-threatened team.

He stated on Match of the Day: “We are one of the most dynamic and entertaining teams in the league at this moment. We are creating loads of chances by playing good football. Every team gives up opportunities but when it is up to us, it is weird.”

The all-time record goalscorer in the Premier League, though, was not buying Ten Hag’s assessment.

The former Newcastle striker answered simply during the most recent episode of The Rest is Football podcast: “No, they’re not!

Shearer went on, saying, “You just never know what team is going to show up. You never know what to expect; they may do well one week and then seem hopeless the next. However, that is untrue.

“Though it’s not hard these days, Burnley played really well at Old Trafford and cut through United with ease. They could have scored five or six goals if they had taken their opportunities.”
