Though it was supposed to be a rejuvenating move, Kalvin Phillips at West Ham United is still having trouble finding his best form.
Following his struggles against Burnley, Kalvin Phillips was dubbed the “worst signing in history” by West Ham fans.
As part of a three-man midfield, the England international was playing alongside James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek. But he was not at his best throughout the match and looked especially untrustworthy when Burnley took the lead.
Burnley took the lead when goal scorer David Datro Fofana effortlessly ducked past Nayef Aguerd and Phillips. Hammers manager David Moyes substituted Edson Alvarez and Michail Antonio for Phillips and Ward-Prowse after the Clarets widened their lead.
Fans were let down by Phillips, who only completed 22 of 28 passes that were attempted. Numerous fans chastised him, with one calling him the worst acquisition the team has ever made.
Angry fans vented their frustration on Twitter, with one fan writing: “Kalvin Phillips is so, so, so bad. Regarding that transfer, no one carried out any due diligence,” the Mirror claims. Another said, “Kalvin Phillips hooked at halftime with Burnley trailing 2-0. gotten worse after moving to West Ham. I’m sure Southgate won’t bring him to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Europe.
“I know it’s stating the obvious, but just how bad is Kalvin Phillips?” said a third. He shouldn’t even be in our starting lineup after his horrible performance. A terrible participant. A catastrophe.” “Oh my God, Kalvin Phillips is terrible,” uttered another. Imagine that he is selected for the England team.”
