A new update has emerged involving former Sheffield Wednesday player Nathan Redmond and Charlton Athletic, with the latest news attracting attention from supporters.

Charlton Athletic are back in pre-season, preparing for their second year in the Championship.

The Addicks were promoted in 2025 and survived in the second tier with a 19th-place finish, six points clear of relegation.

Nathan Jones will be trying to improve on that position over the following 12 months, as the London club seeks to cement their status at this level.

This summer, the Championship side recruited Karlan Grant, Danny McNamara, Ivan Mesik, and Billy Koumetio to their first-team roster.

They have till September 1 to finish any remaining business before the market closes.

Jones will want to bolster the squad between now and then, as the team aims for a better second season in the second division.

Nathan Redmond trains with Charlton Athletic.

Sky Sports (12.17) claimed that Nathan Redmond is presently working with Charlton while looking for a new team.

The winger is currently a free agent and hopes to join the Championship next season.

However, it is thought that the former Southampton player and the Addicks have yet to reach a contract agreement.

The 32-year-old hopes to retain his fitness as part of his training with Charlton, but no agreement is likely between the two parties in the near future.

Redmond is available following stints with Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers last season, where he made eight Championship appearances.

He joined the Owls as a free agent in November, during the club’s financial troubles, but he left after only a few months due to injury issues.

This led to Redmond signing for Blackburn, who were fighting for their survival in the second tier.

However, he only appeared twice under Michael O’Neill, coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Stoke City and beginning a 3-0 loss to Southampton.

It’s unclear whether Charlton will make an offer to sign the winger or look elsewhere.

Following his departure from St. Mary’s, Redmond spent two seasons at Burnley and one year with Besiktas, but he has struggled to find consistent minutes throughout his career.

Charlton’s new season begins on August 15 with a home game against Derby County.

Charlton should consider Nathan Redmond as a last resort. They have a better understanding of his current fitness level and potential.

However, any move for him would have to be done as a last resort in order to improve Jones’ attack.

The 32-year-old is no longer at his peak, and his fitness issues have proven to be a major impediment to staying relevant in recent years.

Redmond at his best would make for a very beneficial addition at Charlton, but there are no guarantees that he can go back to anywhere near that level right now, therefore the club are better off avoiding a deal to lock him down for the season.
