Sheffield Wednesday is preparing their roster ahead of the 2026/27 League. One season, following relegation from the Championship in difficult circumstances this season.
The Owls spent the most of the season in administration, and their relegation was finally confirmed when they were defeated by bitter rivals Sheffield United in February.
Henrik Pedersen’s side lost 18 points due to former owner Dejphon Chansiri’s wrongdoings, and they only won two league games.
However, Wednesday finished the season on a high note, defeating West Bromwich Albion on May 2 in front of a sell-out crowd celebrating David Storch’s takeover.
Following the announcement that the Owls will not face a 15-point deduction, Storch’s Arise consortium is now focused on assembling a squad that can enable them challenge at the right end of the League One league.
The South Yorkshire business could have received a 15-point penalty because its takeover bid fell short of the amount required to pay creditors 25 pence in the pound.
However, the EFL rejected that sentence because Chansiri refused to cooperate with Storch’s alternative offer.
Liam Palmer’s perspective on Sheffield Wednesday’s future

Wednesday is also challenged with determining which of their out-of-contract players to offer new contracts to, in addition to their search for new talent this summer.
Liam Palmer, who made his Hillsborough Stadium debut in the 2010/11 season, is one of the Owls players whose present contracts are set to expire this summer.
Fittingly, Wednesday legend Palmer scored when Pedersen’s side defeated West Brom on an emotional afternoon earlier this month.
According to Alan Nixon on Patreon, the 34-year-old is now in negotiations with the South Yorkshire club to extend his contract.
Despite his club’s relegation to League One, the defender is eager to continue at Hillsborough Stadium, and talks about extending his contract are presently underway.
Palmer has the option to extend his current contract by one year, but according to Nixon’s claim, he wants to stay with the Owls for longer.
Remaining in S6 would, of course, allow Palmer to return to the Championship with the club he has supported for the past 16 years.
Except for a 2012/13 loan spell with Tranmere Rovers, the former Scotland international has only ever played for Wednesday in his senior career.
Liam Palmer’s new contract deal makes sense for all parties.

Palmer has persevered with Wednesday through thick and thin over the years, as evidenced by his 47 appearances across all competitions for them this season, despite the club’s significant financial problems.
In contrast, Josh Windass and Djeidi Gassama quit Hillsborough Stadium last summer, when Chansiri failed to pay his players’ wages, however the aforementioned pair cannot be faulted for this.
Palmer’s illustrious Wednesday career has included Championship play-offs, second-tier relegation battles, and promotion from League One.
The veteran could gain another promotion by continuing with the Owls, but signing a new contract makes sense for all parties concerned.
Storch’s consortium has a lot of work to do this summer, but having Palmer on board makes life easier for the Hillsborough outfit than it would be otherwise.
