Latte Lath reveals one issue he had with Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough.

Emmanuel Latte Lath, a former Middlesbrough striker, has admitted that Michael Carrick was sometimes too cool at the Riverside Stadium.

According to a BBC article, Latte Lath discussed his career journey, which included a brief spell on Teesside.

The 27-year-old is presently on loan at Bundesliga club Union Berlin, where he has one goal in six games.

Latte Lath originally left Middlesbrough to join MLS club Atlanta United, but the frontman has quickly returned to Europe, raising the possibility that he made a mistake by leaving the Riverside Stadium.

And now he’s opened up about his time at Borough, revealing some interesting details about Michael Carrick, who, of course, oversaw the squad throughout Latte Lath’s tenure and is under intense scrutiny in his current post as Manchester United manager.

Emmanuel Latte Lath’s tenure at Middlesbrough

Emmanuel Latte Lath moved to England in the summer of 2023, signing a four-year contract with Middlesbrough after leaving Serie A club Atalanta.

And, in his debut season, he would reward all of the faith shown in him by scoring 16 times in 30 games, but it was insufficient as Borough narrowly lost out on the play-offs under Carrick’s leadership.

Latte Lath scored 11 goals in his second and final season at Riverside Stadium before leaving to play in the MLS.

Borough received a substantial sum for his sale, with Atlanta United paying a reported £22.5 million.

However, the loss of such a consistent goalscorer would result in Carrick’s men falling short of promotion once more, with the club finishing 10th at the end of the season.

Latte Lath’s stint at Borough was undeniably marred by his sudden departure, with many unable to forgive his lack of loyalty and unable to see out a season that may have resulted in promotion.

Emmanuel Latte Lath raises an issue with Michael Carrick.

Speaking to the BBC on his brief stint at Middlesbrough, striker Emmanuel Latte Lath claimed Michael Carrick might be overly calm at times as Borough manager, but that the now-Manchester United manager gave him all the confidence he needed to fit into second-tier life right immediately.

Latte Lath stated, “I found a good coach and a good person.” It immediately boosted my confidence.”He was a calm guy and coach, which may have been too much at times, but it was just what we needed. “He knew when and what to say to you, whether in a difficult or positive situation.”So it was very significant to me at the time.”

Michael Carrick suffers comparable challenges at Middlesbrough and Manchester United.

Emmanuel Latte Lath’s assessment of Michael Carrick sheds light on the qualities he brings to the table as a manager, particularly his ability to build relationships and instill immediate confidence in his players; however, the issue Carrick faces wherever he goes is the ability to sustain success over time, with similarities emerging from his time at Middlesbrough and now at Old Trafford.

Carrick managed to get Borough into the play-offs in his first season, but after failing to gain promotion, they missed out on places in the top six for the next two seasons, prompting criticism of Carrick’s style of play and failure to truly get the best out of what he had at his disposal.

And now it’s unravelling at Manchester United, with a third-place finish in the Premier League morphing into a mid-table collapse or, worse, a relegation struggle, while Carrick’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain if they don’t win Bournemouth this weekend.

There is little evidence to suggest that his placid demeanour has contributed to these weaknesses, but perhaps a little more fire when things go tough is what he has to do to re-energize his players.

It’s possible that Carrick isn’t doing it right now, and it’s a big reason why he hasn’t established himself as one of the best managers in the world.
