Nicky Hayen discusses Burnley’s odd mistakes.
Nicky Hayen believes his Burnley side must correct their individual shortcomings as soon as possible.
The Clarets lost a lead to lose 2-1 at home to Wolves on Friday night, extending the club’s home league losing streak to a calendar year.
Both Wolves goals were the result of Burnley blunders, with Kyle Walker and Igor Julio to blame. In contrast, Wolves’ winning goal could have been handled considerably better by goalkeeper Gregoire Coudert.
Defensive blunders have been a reoccurring theme this season, as Burnley sits in the bottom three with only one win to their name.
“It’s just an individual mistake,” Hayen stated. “From 100 balls today, for example, we did 99 good, and every error we make is a goal, that’s the truth.
“You don’t have the luck that he hits the bar and goes over, and we don’t get punished. But in this scenario, you don’t have luck on your side, and I understand.
“It’s something that needs to come out so that we can discuss the match plan. I think the organisation was terrific, and the manner we played was excellent. I believe they enjoyed how we played in the first half, but you cannot win games without making individual mistakes.
“The players apologised in the locker room; it is something they accept because they do not do it on purpose. However, it does not help us win games, particularly in this difficult situation.”
