Despite numerous transfer offers from Championship clubs this summer, Plymouth Argyle striker Bim Pepple stated that he was completely focused on his situation at Home Park.

The Canadian forward had a breakout season at Plymouth last season, with the majority of his contributions coming in the second half of the season as Argyle advanced from relegation hopefuls to play-off outsiders.

Pepple scored 18 goals in all competitions during his debut season in Devon, 15 of which came this year. His start against Stevenage on New Year’s Day was his fourth of the season in League One.

There hasn’t been a faster emerging star in 2026 than the 23-year-old, and Championship clubs were understandably interested in Pepple this summer.

Finally, with Lorent Tolaj leaving Plymouth for Bristol City in a rumoured £4 million transfer this summer, Championship sides would find it tough to lure his attack partner away from the Devon club as well.

Norwich City, Portsmouth, Watford, and Lincoln City were all in negotiations about signing Pepple, but nothing came of it, with sources claiming he had a seven-figure release clause in his contract.

Fortunately for Tom Cleverley, the 23-year-old was not interested in forcing a move away this summer. He told the press ahead of their recent 1-0 home loss against Burton Albion that he was fully focused on his current situation at Plymouth.”I kind of just took it as a compliment,” he told Plymouth Live. “It simply indicates I was doing something well. If you had told me when I signed last year that I would be linked to Championship clubs or whatever, I would have been quite astonished and might not have believed you.

“There is always going to be interest if you are scoring goals, but [I’m] just focused on giving my 100 per cent to this club.”

Pepple revealed that his teammates were astonished to see him at training during pre-season. However, the Canadian, who avoids social media, did not notice the transfer talk as much as they did.”I’m not on Twitter or anything, so I don’t hear much of it,” he added. “Obviously,

my agency may say there are bits and pieces, but a lot of things I had no idea. When I would walk into training, people would say, ‘Oh, you are still here’. It didn’t have much of an impact on me because I was only concerned with myself. “I am enjoying my football.

“When the (transfer) window closes, it definitely makes life easier for others around me, but for me, it was just the same old trying to grab three points on the weekend and score goals, so it wasn’t too difficult to deal with.”

Plymouth Argyle will have been thrilled to keep Bim Pepple at Home Park after the transfer deadline.

Tolaj’s departure would have been substantially mitigated by the certainty that Pepple would stay.

While the Swissman made a significant effect at Home Park, it was during his absence due to injury that Pepple led the line, which coincided with their greatest form of the season, though that continued when the new Bristol City man returned.

Nonetheless, there was some hope that the 23-year-old could step up and be the key talisman as Plymouth attempted to improve on last season’s performance and finish in the top six, or even challenge for automatic promotion.

While Tom Cleverley’s side missed out on the chance to move top with a win on Saturday, Pepple has been a headache for defenders up front and has recently regained his scoring form. His three league goals this season have all come in successive games prior to Burton.

Those League One goals, combined with a couple in all competitions, bring his total to five in 11 games this season. He may not be scoring at the same rate as he was in the second half of last season, but he has started his second season in Argyle colours well.

Plymouth Argyle should be wary of increased Championship interest in Bim Pepple this January.

Unfortunately, if Pepple continues to score at nearly a goal every other game between now and January, there will undoubtedly be interest in his return.

The 23-year-old is a monster up front, one of the strongest strikers in the EFL, and is thus an excellent option for ball retention while also scoring goals. With the potential for improvement, it’s unsurprising that second-tier clubs expressed interest in the summer.

If he continues to impress in front of goal and improves his overall game, Championship clubs will be pounding on Tom Cleverley’s door to test their resolve during the January transfer window.

Plymouth will hope to be in the automatic promotion race by then. If so, they may be able to persuade Pepple to stay at Home Park, with the chance of moving up to the second tier alongside them.
