Sheffield United owner Steve Rosen has spoken out about how Dejphon Chansiri invested a lot of money in Sheffield Wednesday only to be disliked by fans.

As a new owner, Steve Rosen was apprehensive after taking over Bramall Lane. His ownership of Sheffield United began on December 23, 2024, when his COH Sports group completed its buyout of the Blades with Helmy Eltoukhy.

Since then, Rosen’s tenure has been significantly more challenging than anticipated. The new owners promised long-term Premier League football, but financial and legal issues surrounding the takeover have caused significant uncertainty.

The 2026 summer has brought additional scrutiny, with the ownership structure and a dispute over money owing to former owner Prince Abdullah now being investigated.

Rosen recently spoke publicly for the first time since the window closed on ‘Blades in America’. The interview was published on Sheffield United’s YouTube account.

He shared his opinions on when he first took over at Bramall Lane, saying, “There’s no attention span issue in Sheffield. It’s Sheffield United. Sheffield Wednesday takes place on the opposite side of town. But Sheffield United spend the day in the pub, with their families, children, and grandparents.

“It’s just everything.”When I reflect about what we stepped into, I realise we lost at Wembley. And then there’s the guy across town who owns the club; this is the first thing I see, right? “He invested 200 million pounds and lost it all.”And the first thing I see as I drive into Sheffield is a most wanted sign for that person.

“I’m like, ‘Oh gosh, he just lost 200 million pounds and he’s hated.'”Yes, they want to. I’m not sure what they’re yelling about him. So these are the two things I walk into. We lost at Wembley, and the guy across town who put in 200 million pounds is getting kicked out. You know, it was discussed really poorly.

“So, that was stressful. So, I’m not sure if this answers your issue, but I believe there is a lot going on in the United States. This could be either a positive or bad thing.Sheffield residents are not always glued to their iPhones, but rather engage in social activities, assemble in bars, and live in the city core.Sheffield United is the source of their greatest delight and misery.

Steve Rosen got a boost because of the Dejphon Chansiri problems at Sheffield Wednesday.

As Rosen points out, there is an interesting parallel between Chansiri’s ownership of Sheffield Wednesday and the fact that the two clubs are famously located across town.

Even with the lingering uncertainty surrounding Rosen’s ownership, it is tough not to believe that his term appears significantly better than Chansiri’s terrible spell at Hillsborough. Chansiri invested heavily in Wednesday, but financial troubles, unpaid wages, transfer restrictions, and ultimately administration led to the club’s relegation.

Rosen’s stay is not without severe problems, especially given the ongoing legal dispute, but the comparison to Wednesday gives vital context. Sheffield United fans should be happy for their current situation, even if recent developments raise questions.

COH Sports is embroiled in a £100 million battle with Sheffield United, which is just one of the issues affecting business at Bramall Lane. However, that is not the only off-field problem; points deductions were also raised in regard to COH Sports earlier this summer.

Prince Abdullah also claims he is owed money by Sheffield United’s current ownership group, with the previous owner considering legal action. Since then, Sheffield United has faced a winding-up petition.

COH Sports owes Prince Abdullah £35 million. It’s undoubtedly concerning for Sheffield United fans that Prince Abdullah is pushing for this to be settled when the club is already facing legal action from Tom Page over Rosen and Eltoukhy’s initial takeover of the club.
