Middlesbrough’s summer transfer business may not be complete just yet, as the club is still waiting for Morgan Whittaker’s projected move to Colorado Rapids to be finalised.
On deadline day, the 25-year-old emerged as a surprise departure from Riverside, with the MLS club reaching an agreement to relocate the winger to the United States.
Whittaker underwent a medical in London on deadline day, but the transaction was not finalised before the English window closed at 11 p.m.
Borough are unconcerned, however, as they remain hopeful that Whittaker will join Colorado before the MLS deadline.
Middlesbrough confident in Morgan Whittaker move – When does the MLS window close?

According to The Northern Echo, Borough have agreed to a permanent move, with the Rapids poised to pay an initial price of £10.6 million, or $13 million.
The attacker had his medical in London on Tuesday and did not travel with the group ahead of Wednesday’s match against Burnley, since the move was his priority.
Crucially, the study states that Borough delivered the essential papers before the September 1 deadline, whereas Colorado is yet to complete its half of the agreement.
Crucially, the MLS transfer window will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, September 2, just before 5 a.m. GMT.
The deal is expected to be a record for the American side. At the same time, Middlesbrough has previously planned for the departure by arranging a loan agreement for Amario Cozier-Duberry, who signed a new three-year contract with Brighton before to the move.
The winger shone during his loan spell with Bolton in the League. One last season, and Rangers midfielder Connor Barron has also joined on loan.
How Middlesbrough fans have responded to potential Morgan Whittaker departure

Whittaker joined the Riverside from Plymouth in January 2025 and has had a hit-and-miss spell, albeit he improved tenfold last season with 21 goals.
With a move to the United States on the horizon, some Borough fans have reacted favourably, with one on X saying: “Morgan Whittaker is someone who arrived to the club with a glass half empty and a glass half full. It is what it is. “He had his moments, and good luck to the fella.”
Some criticise Whittaker’s time at Middlesbrough, arguing that a change is beneficial.Luxury players differ from one another. Hoddle and Le Tissier could explain it because they have enough magic to alter a game. Morgan Whittaker merely lacks the luxury to warrant his status as a luxury player. When things don’t go his way, he disappears.
The entrance of Cozier-Duberry would also have a significant impact on the supporters’ mindset.
Before the move, one admirer stated, “I hope this Amario Cozier-Duberry deal is completed because this lad is talented and has pace to burn.” I’m very enthusiastic about this one. I don’t know much about Connor Barron from the Rangers, but I’d appreciate it. As for Morgan Whittaker, I’m relieved he’s leaving since he’s frustrating in games.”
Amario Cozier-Duberry is under pressure following Morgan Whittaker’s move.

After flourishing for Bolton last season, the emphasis is on new wideman Cozier-Duberry to deliver.
Whittaker was annoying at times, but he contributed 21 goals last season, which is difficult to replicate.
Cozier-Duberry is an interesting prospect, but he has yet to play in the Championship and may require time to adjust. If it succeeds, it may be a game changer for Middlesbrough, but as previously stated, replacing so many contributions is not easy.
