Birmingham City would be wise to sign Joe Gelhardt.

Gelhardt is presently training with Leeds’ U21 team, so it makes sense that he wants his future resolved as soon as possible. He will be eager to join a new team.

Given that the forward has spent the last 18 months at Hull and that they would be able to provide Premier League football, it is obvious why Hull is appealing to him.

However, at this point in his career, Gelhardt must prioritise playing every single week.

Given that Gelhardt is a player who can have a significant impact in the last third, Birmingham’s interest is understandable.

Some would argue that the top target should be a left-sided attacker, but Gelhardt is a very valuable option because he can play from the right, behind a number nine, and as a striker. If necessary, he could also play on the left.

Gelhardt is a good Championship player at his best, and since the Blues aim to keep the ball on the ground, Chris Davies’ style of play should be perfect for him.

The Blues have been slow-moving this summer window, but they have always prioritised quality over numbers. If they can sign Gelhardt, it would be a huge win for the upcoming campaign.
