Fans of Southampton have been anxiously awaiting an important update regarding the scope of the FA’s investigation into manager Tonda Eckert.

After the EFL determined that the Saints had spied on Middlesbrough prior to their first semi-final match, the team was eliminated from the Championship play-offs.

Earlier in the season, it was discovered that Southampton had spied on Oxford United and Ipswich Town, with Eckert being a key player.

There have been significant developments since the FA began their own investigation into the German, who is scheduled to be punished.

Tonda Eckert, the manager of Southampton, is facing three FA charges.

Despite the current enquiry, Saints owner Dragan Solak publicly supported his manager in the aftermath of the Spygate scandal, stating that he wanted the German to lead the team next season.

In an open interview, Eckert apologised in public for the situation, but he would have known that his real assessment would come later.

According to a statement issued by the FA, Eckert is accused of three violations of FA Rule 3.1 concerning misbehaviour that occurred between December 2025 and May 2026.By directing and/or approving the observation of Oxford United FC, Ipswich Town FC, and Middlesbrough FC training sessions prior to their matches against Southampton FC in December 2025, April 2026, and May 2026, respectively, the head coach is accused of acting improperly and/or bringing the game into disrepute.”

The club has responded to the accusations quickly, and as Solak previously said, it appears that they will support their manager.According to a club statement, “Tonda and the club will continue to cooperate fully and openly with the FA.”We continue to concentrate on getting ready for the 2026–2027 Championship season. As we strive towards our goal of making a comeback to the Premier League, the club continues to completely support Tonda and his team.”While the process is still in progress, we are unable to comment further; however, we will notify supporters as soon as we are able to do so.”

The worst-case scenario for the German, according to The Athletic, is that he is banned from coaching, though insiders close to the team think this is improbable.

Additionally, Eckert is not anticipated to challenge the FA allegations, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

What will happen to Saints and Eckert next?

Southampton’s tone has undoubtedly changed, as they went on the defensive after being accused of spying.

Of course, a long time has passed since then, and the club has had time to reflect on what happened before finally taking ownership.

The Saints will now await the nature of Eckert’s prospective punishment; while they do not believe he will face a coaching ban, this does not rule it out.
