Kim Hellberg is preparing for his first full season as Middlesbrough manager, as the club looks to recover from their disappointing play-off final defeat.

Boro’s last campaign was frantic, with Rob Edwards making the contentious decision to leave for Wolves just months after his hiring, and ‘Spygate’ dominated the season’s finale.

Now, however, the focus is on the new season, and Hellberg will be determined to make his mark on the squad during his first summer transfer window.

Middlesbrough and FC Koln are interested in Malmo’s Otto Rosengren.

Borough have already begun on that front, with Myles Peart-Harris and Kyle Joseph joining the club, but there will be plenty more business for the Teessiders to conduct in the coming weeks.

Malmö’s Otto Rosengren appears to be on their radar, with Swedish media outlet Expressen reporting Hellberg wants to sign the midfielder.

However, any deal will not be easy, as FC Koln is also interested in the 23-year-old, with the German club sending scouts to see Rosengren in Malmö’s 4-0 win against Goteborg over the weekend, where he assisted.

With Rosengren entering the final 18 months of his contract, the source says that Malmö may cash in on one of their best players if a fair offer arrives, and that he is ‘highly ranked internally’ at Middlesbrough.

Hellberg will be well-versed in Swedish football, having previously managed Varnamo and Hammarby among other clubs before joining Borough.

Otto Rosengren would be a wise signing for Middlesbrough.

Following that, we know that Middlesbrough’s head coach does not have complete control over transfers, but Hellberg will undoubtedly have a significant influence, and it makes sense to target the Swedish market.

On paper, Rosengren appears to be an excellent signing for Borough, and he fits the type of the player they should be searching for.

Rosengren, 23, is still young, but he has made over 100 appearances for Malmö since joining from Mjallby, including games in Europe.

So he has some experience and is a good all-around midfielder with a variety of skills that could make him suitable for the Championship.

Clearly, it is an area of the pitch that Borough must improve following Hayden Hackney’s transfer to Everton. Of course, it will take more than one player to replace the academy graduate, who was awarded the league’s best player last season.

However, Rosengren would undoubtedly contribute to the XI, and Hackney’s sale suggests Borough are willing to spend.

FC Koln’s interest will be a concern, as the opportunity to join a Bundesliga club may appeal to Rosengren, but it also demonstrates that they are looking for a talented player!
