José Sá transfer truth emerges at Wolves despite exit ‘talks’ as transfer truth emerges.

Following Wolverhampton Wanderers’ relegation from the Premier League to the Championship, much has changed at Molineux, and more is expected in the coming weeks following the arrival of Cesar Peixoto.

The 2026/27 season will mark the first time the Old Gold and Black have been outside of English football’s top division in eight years, and many expect a quick promotion challenge at Molineux under the 46-year-old who succeeded Rob Edwards last month.

Edwards’ departure from the West Midlands club came despite the fact that Wanderers clearly sought an early advantage in the transfer market over their divisional rivals, with both Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez signing pre-contract agreements in mid-June, which will now be made official due to the season’s start date.

However, transfer speculation continues to rage around many of the players who remain a member of Peixoto’s team at the moment, though it remains to be seen how many of those engaged in last season’s disastrous relegation season will still be playing a regular, or any part, in the Championship.

The goalkeeping position at Molineux is sure to be fraught with intrigue as a result of such intense rumours, and a new transfer update has recently been released on the future of five-time Portuguese international Jose Sa.

Fresh Wolves, Jose Sa transfer update emerges with Besiktas.

Indeed, the Express and Star reported in early June that Sa was expected to leave Wolves during the summer transfer window as part of a restructure in the goalkeepers union, even before the surprising change of head coach.

Bruno Lage recruited the 33-year-old from Olympiacos for a reported £6.25 million in the summer of 2021, replacing his experienced compatriot Rui Patricio, who left the Black Country at the same time as current West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo.

Despite signing a five-year contract at the time, Sa later agreed to a four-year contract extension in the summer of 2023, which means he will be out of contract in 12 months if his situation does not alter.

However, the aforementioned outlet has revealed that numerous European clubs, including Turkish giants Besiktas, are keeping an eye on his status as pre-season begins.

However, it has been stated that while negotiations between intermediaries have occurred, no formal proposal has been made by the Istanbul club, which only confirmed Vicenzo Italiano’s appointment on June 6th.

The report also states that Wolves are willing to approve an exit later in the window due to a’relaxed’ stance, whilst Sa is presently a member of Portugal’s World Cup team under Roberto Martinez.

Sa isn’t the only Wolves player Besiktas has apparently shown interest in; the club has also been linked with Czech defender Ladislav Krejci, just months after purchasing his former centre-back partner, Emmanuel Agbadou.

Wolves will have to move quickly to address the goalkeeping position amid Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone’s leave talks.

Sa has appeared 170 times for Wolves since his arrival from Greece five years ago, maintaining a total of 40 clean sheets across all competitions, demonstrating that he has not always been a first-choice goalkeeper under a succession of head coaches.

However, his nous and experience have been useful at times, even if he plainly wasn’t performing at the same level as previous season, before appearing to be visibly moved on the final day of last season against Burnley, which, once again, makes such exit speculation less shocking.

However, Wolves must address their goalkeeping position as soon as possible, with Sam Johnstone’s future uncertain amid speculations that he may return to his former club, Manchester United, to assist Michael Carrick with various squad registration quotas at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen who could replace at least one of the two, but Peixoto’s first competitive game as manager is against Port Vale in the EFL Cup first round in just over five weeks.
