Portsmouth has had an extremely quiet transfer window thus far, but that could change in spectacular fashion as the club looks to sign a former player.
Much of the conjecture at Fratton Park leading into the summer revolved around manager John Mousinho, although talk of a possible resignation has died down.
Pompey can now concentrate on player recruitment as they look to improve on their 18th-place performance and retain their Championship status for the third consecutive season.
If the South Coast side is to progress up the table, they will undoubtedly require a stronger goal threat, which may come from a familiar face.
Portsmouth is in negotiations with Hull City about Abu Kamara.

Hull City are in the process of selling players to avoid breaking financial regulations, with Kyle Joseph set to join Middlesbrough for £5 million, while more finances are needed.
Tigers chairman Acun Ilicali recently told a supporters’ forum that the club needs to produce £6 million by today (30 June) or risk exceeding the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) limit for the 2025/26 reporting period.
Portsmouth are now exploring a bid for winger Abu Kamara, who spent a season on loan at Fratton Park in 2023-2024, according to Hull Live.
According to the publication, Pompey had long been interested in the 22-year-old’s talents and wanted to sign him before the Tigers rushed in to take him to the MKM Stadium in 2024.
They add that no deal has yet been reached between the two teams, but talks are said to be ongoing, and a move could depend on whether the South Coasters will pay what Hull demands.
Why would Kamara be a positive addition to Pompey?

Mousinho’s side clearly needs more goals after scoring 49 last season, with just five clubs scoring fewer.
Kamara’s last season was unsuccessful, as he was loaned out to La Liga club Getafe, where he made only 13 appearances after missing four months due to an ankle injury.
However, his record in England is promising, as Pompey supporters will recall, as he scored 20 goals for the club in all competitions, his highest total for an individual season in his professional career.
Of course, those goals and assists were in League One, but in his final full season in the Championship, he scored five goals and provided three assists to help Hull avoid relegation.
Mousinho requires Kamara’s pace and directness on his team, and at 22, the winger still has lots of potential to develop into a great winger.
How have Portsmouth fans responded to the Kamara news?
It is fair to assume that news of a possible deal for Kamara has been enthusiastically received by Portsmouth fans online.
