Millwall reached the Championship play-offs last season but were unable to earn promotion to the Premier League, therefore their focus must now shift to improving in 2026-27.
Alex Neil’s side missed out on automatic promotion by one point, finishing third behind Ipswich Town and losing to Hull City in the play-off semi-finals.
The south London club will be hoping to keep their squad together over the summer, with a few additions, in order to remain competitive.
It might be a busy few months for the Lions, who will learn their first opponent of the new season on Thursday morning.
Millwall have not participated in the top flight since 1990, but fans will be optimistic that they can be in the mix again next season, and they will be encouraged by the fact that the play-offs will feature two additional teams from the following season.
Millwall close in on a seven-figure summer signing.

Millwall’s Alex Neil is close to making a huge summer signing, according to French outlet Le Parisien, with the Lions on their second arrival of the window.
Taïryk Arconte, who now plays for Rodez AF in Ligue 2, is expected to join The Den.
While he initially joined Rodez on loan in 2023, he signed with the French club on a permanent basis in 2025, where he established himself as an important member of the team.
The 22-year-old scored 14 goals and assisted three times to help Rodez finish fifth in France’s second division in 2025-26, and he is now preparing for a significant move to England.
The two clubs are said to have agreed on a fee of around €3 million (£2.6 million), with a medical already underway for the Guadeloupe international.
Neil has moved rapidly to improve his forward line for next season, with Arconte receiving high praise for his Ligue 2 exploits, and he will join Josh Coburn and Mihailo Ivanovic in South Bermondsey.
Millwall’s signing of Taïryk Arconte demonstrates their commitment for the 2026-27 season.

Millwall are not resting on their laurels following a successful Championship season, as this seven-figure deal for Arconte demonstrates.
The Lions have made early moves in the transfer market and appear to be preparing for another promotion assault next year.
If Arconte can translate his success in France to English football, he may be a fantastic addition for the London club, but there’s no certainty.
Another player capable of leading the line and scoring consistently, in addition to the aforementioned Coburn and Ivanovic, will keep them in promotion contention, especially if they can keep Azeez, though that is not a guarantee just yet following his spellbinding 2025-26 season.
