Wolves ready for multi-million-pound cash boost.

Wolves are back in the Championship after finishing 20th in the Premier League this season.

The Midlands team had a tough season, finishing at the bottom of the standings throughout.

Rob Edwards took over as head coach in November, succeeding Vitor Pereira, however he was unable to turn things around and lead a survival challenge.

The Old Gold received just 20 points, capping an eight-year run in the division that included high points such as consecutive seventh-place finishes in 2019 and 2020.

Edwards will now be aiming for a successful summer, as the club seeks automatic promotion at the first try.

The transfer window will be a critical phase for the 43-year-old, since it will be his first opportunity to mould the squad to his taste.

Wolves set to get financial boost

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, former Wolves player Bastien Meupiyou is garnering interest from German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund.

It has already been suggested that the Championship club included a 50% sell-on provision in their deal to trade the defender 12 months ago.

Dortmund is thought to have made an offer of €12 (£10.3) million, which might grow to €17 (£14.6) million depending on add-ons.

However, no agreement has been reached, and the Bundesliga team faces competition from other clubs in Europe.

If this arrangement is approved, Wolves would earn between £5 million and £7 million, although this figure might grow even more if a bidding war breaks out.

The 20-year-old joined Alverca last summer and has made 30 appearances in Portugal’s top flight this season.

He has astonished many with his skills, prompting speculation of a move after only a year.

The teenager did not play for Wolves’ first team prior to his departure from Molineux in 2025, but he might still earn the club a large cash this summer.

The Old Gold signed the centre-back from Nantes in 2024 after breaking into the French club’s first team through their academy system.

Prior to joining English football, the 20-year-old appeared once in Ligue 1 in 2023/24.

Wolves will be keeping a tight eye on the negotiations between Alverca and Dortmund, as Meupiyou’s future remains uncertain ahead of the transfer window’s formal opening on June 15.

Bastien Meupiyou’s sell-on clause is smart business for Wolves.

Meupiyou did not play for Wolves, but he might now bring the club a significant cash heading into a critical summer.

While an additional £5 or 7 million will not be the largest sum ever earned, it may be significant now that they are participating in the Championship.

Including a sell-on clause in this transaction is a solid business decision that will pay off nearly immediately.

Some supporters may ask why he wasn’t given a fair chance in the Wolves team, and it’s possible he could’ve grown this well if he stayed, but the increased revenue will still be a great bonus for the club.
