QPR are gearing up for a very busy summer as they try to build on a successful first season under Julien Stephan.
The former Rennes manager was named R’s manager last summer, and while they finished 15th after a poor season, there were some encouraging signs.
Nonetheless, it is evident that the squad is missing in some areas, and everyone associated with the club will be hoping for a profitable transfer window as they attempt to push for the play-offs in a year, with the new system allowing the top eight to compete for promotion.
Christian Nourry discusses Alou Diarra’s departure ahead of the 2026/27 season.
While the focus will be on outgoings and incomings on the playing side, Stephan appears to need to add a new member to his backstage squad.

That’s because QPR announced that Alou Diarra had departed the club. The former France international had worked with Stephan after being appointed first team coach last season.
So he will be much missed, and some QPR fans may be concerned that they are losing someone who has such an impact on the team on a daily basis.
However, speaking to the official website, CEO Christian Nourry revealed why the club permitted Diarra to leave, stating that the 44-year-old aspires to be a head coach in his own right.
“I want to thank Alou for the year we’ve spent together. His warmth, sensitivity, and ingenuity assisted the other coaching staff in achieving the best potential results.
“Alou came to see me in April to tell me that he had decided to become a head coach. We’ve determined that now is the ideal time for both sides to split ways. I wish him all the best in his hunt for a new challenge.”
QPR should support Julien Stephan as they strive for success.
Diarra, a valued figure at the club, is respected by the players due to his extensive experience at the highest level, including 44 caps for France.
So, in that regard, and given Stephan’s evident desire for Diarra to remain at the club, he will be missed.

However, as Nourry says, Diarra believes he is ready to take the next step into management, and it stands to reason that the R’s will not impede his progress.
Now the focus shifts to finding his replacement, and Stephan will undoubtedly have certain names in mind that he believes can benefit the club on the training pitch, and it will be intriguing to see who they bring in.
Then it’s time to show Stephan your support on the transfer market. Again, there are obvious concerns that must be addressed, and it is critical that QPR add quality to support some of the club’s talented players, such Rumarn Burrell, Ronnie Edwards, Richard Kone, Nicolas Madsen, and Harvey Vale.
The Championship appears to be incredibly competitive next season, but teams such as QPR will believe that the prolonged play-off structure provides them a much better chance of reaching the Premier League, therefore some significant decisions await the Loftus Road leadership.
