A new update has emerged regarding Amr Zedan’s potential Preston North End takeover

Preston North End’s potential takeover by Amr Zedan has proven slow to progress in recent months.

The Lilywhites have experienced a prolonged period of stasis under the Hemmings Family, who have kept the club solvent but appear hesitant to pursue ambitious objectives.

Their 14th-place performance in the 2025/26 season was the latest to not deviate from the norm at Deepdale, and despite some fan dissatisfaction punctuated numerous home games throughout the campaign, supporters may now have renewed hope when a new report on the club’s potential sale surfaced.

Amr Zedan talks continue, while PNE awaits a potential takeover breakthrough.

According to Alan Nixon, there has been some action behind the scenes about Zedan’s proposed acquisition of PNE.

In an update on his Patreon page, Nixon stated that while the Saudi-American businessman has not yet finalized a deal, his legal representatives are still in talks with the hierarchy as they attempt to achieve an agreement.

According to the story, those involved are hopeful that the takeover will soon be able to go on to the next stage of regulatory examination, with the Independent Football Regulator now monitoring suitability checks for prospective owners.

Zedan is also expected to keep current manager Paul Heckingbottom if a deal is eventually completed.

Nixon further said that Preston’s summer transfer business is still significantly related to developments surrounding the planned merger.

The Lancashire club apparently has until the end of June to complete a £4.5 million permanent move for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Alfie Devine, with the agreed-upon terms only valid until the completion of his loan spell at Deepdale.

Preston are hopeful of completing the transfer before the deadline, after which rival clubs will be allowed to enter the battle for the England youth international, with Wolves and Celtic both thought to be interested following his eight-goal Championship haul.

Beyond that, Nixon notes that North End is expected to operate within their current financial constraints, focusing mostly on free transfers and loan signings unless new financing is secured through the Zedan transaction, which is likely to be completed.

Preston North End supporters want change after years of stability.

Few clubs better exemplify the Championship’s contemporary balancing act than Preston North End.

Under the Hemmings family, the club has mostly dodged the financial turmoil that has gripped others in the EFL.

Preston have remained competitive since their return to the second division in 2015, with no parachute payments, billionaire overspending, or reckless transfer market gambles.

However, stability might eventually become stagnant.

Preston have not reached the play-offs since their return to the Championship, and despite periodic flirtations with the top six, too many seasons have resulted in anonymous mid-table results.

A promising first half of the 2025/26 season faded into another disappointing finish, leaving many PNE fans feeling detached from a club that is stuck in neutral.

That mounting discontent explains why reports of a takeover have sparked such excitement in Deepdale.

There is little public information about Zedan’s long-term aspirations, although his attendance at Preston’s draw with Queens Park Rangers in April fueled speculation that negotiations are underway.

The caution is understandable. Takeovers in the Football League have produced radically divergent results.

Birmingham City and Wrexham have become instances of fast expansion under ambitious management, while the volatility at Sheffield Wednesday, Morecambe, and Reading serves as a cautionary tale of how quickly instability can develop under unsuitable leadership.

For Preston supporters eager to see the club progress, the unpredictability of a takeover may be preferable than the predictability of staying stagnant.

It’s unknown if Zedan will eventually be the trigger for change, but there’s a sense around Deepdale that a watershed moment is on the horizon.
