The transfer truth emerges regarding Femi Azeez and Ipswich Town.

Ipswich Town have chosen whether to renew their interest in Millwall’s Femi Azeez after making offers for his signature during the winter transfer window.

Azeez established himself as one of the top wingers in the Championship this season, scoring 11 goals and assisting seven times in 35 second-tier games.

The 24-year-old was the Lions’ top scorer this season, helping Alex Neil’s side finish third, just one point behind Ipswich, who earned immediate promotion.

However, Millwall lost to Hull City in the Championship play-off semi-finals, making them more vulnerable to losing their best players this summer.

Ipswich Town’s Femi Azeez transfer twist

Ipswich have had the services of excellent wingers such as Jaden Philogene, Jack Clarke, Anis Mehmeti, and Kasey McAteer this season, but they know they need to strengthen their ranks this summer after securing promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Tractor Boys were demoted from the Premier League alongside Leicester City and Southampton in 2025, and they will be desperate to avoid a repeat of that fate the following season.

Meanwhile, Alan Nixon announced on Patreon on Sunday that Ipswich were hoping to recruit Azeez for between £15 million and £20 million this summer.

According to Southwark News, Millwall rejected a Tractor Boys bid for Azeez, which would have resulted in a club record sale during the winter transfer window.

Alex Neil chose to keep his team’s outstanding player, as the Den squad sought to enter the Premier League for the first time since its formation in 1992.

Meanwhile, in contrast to Nixon’s story, East Anglian Daily Times football reporter Stuart Watson told X on Monday that Ipswich will not rekindle their interest in Azeez this summer.

However, Kieran McKenna’s team has already been quite active in the transfer market, with Cedric Kipre’s loan move to Portman Road becoming a permanent deal when the Tractor Boys earned promotion.

Furthermore, according to French outlet Foot Sur 7, Southampton and Ipswich are both interested in Marseille defender CJ Egan-Riley, who previously represented Burnley.

Egan-Riley helped the Clarets achieve promotion to the Premier League, but elected to move to Ligue 1 rather than continue his career with the Lancashire club in England’s top tier.

Ipswich’s interest in the former Burnley player demonstrates their desire to enhance their defence, but McKenna must also strengthen his attack despite his side’s Azeez decision.

Millwall may still face an uphill battle to maintain Femi Azeez, despite Ipswich’s decision.

Ipswich’s decision not to renew their interest in Azeez this summer bodes well for Millwall, who will be looking to launch another promotion drive next season.

However, just because the Tractor Boys have cooled their interest in the former Reading player does not guarantee that the Lions will keep him.

Aside from his goalscoring and assist-making abilities, Azeez has an excellent ability to use both feet, making him difficult for opposing defenders to deal with.

As a result, high-profile teams may scheme moves for the winger, perhaps jeopardizing Millwall’s future promotion prospects, despite the substantial transfer fee they may recuperate.
