Birmingham City are facing transfer competition from Leeds United and Brentford for their £6.9 million-rated star.

Birmingham City’s summer signings are sure to pique interest once more as the club seeks to flex its muscles in the race for Premier League football.

Blues’ short and long-term objectives have recently become one of the EFL’s key talking points, yet they have yet to demonstrate why the club received so much attention when it returned to the Championship at the start of the season.

Chris Davies is approaching two years in control of St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, and there is still much speculation over whether the 41-year-old will remain in charge at the start of 2026/27, when two extra play-off places will be available as part of a new system.

Football League World can exclusively reveal that Thomas Frank, former Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford manager, is on Tom Wagner’s potential shortlist of managers and head coaches if Davies is removed of his duties.

As a result, a managerial change might dramatically impact any future transfer intentions in this part of the Second City, despite Davies recently stating his awareness of the club’s position on extending numerous players’ current loan spells.

Indeed, Birmingham has had mixed results from the profusion of additions made in both the summer and winter windows, as evidenced by the club’s mid-table position in the Championship.

Jhon Solis, a Girona FC loanee, has emerged as a bright spark since his January arrival, but there is no certainty that the 21-year-old will return to the second tier club in the forthcoming transfer window.

Leeds United and Brentford have expressed interest in Birmingham City loan ace Jhon Solis.

It has been well documented that an initial loan fee was paid for Solis’ transfer from La Liga to Birmingham, and that the midfielder could be signed permanently by the Championship side via a £6.9 million option-to-buy, though said option would become mandatory if an appearance-related clause was triggered.

It has now been stated that the appearance condition, which linked to Solis playing in 11 games, was also minutes-related, and he has already played more than 45 minutes in 13 appearances for Blues.

The latter data was published by Spanish journalist Ivan Quiros via X, along with interest from two Premier League clubs, Leeds United and Brentford.

As previously said, the all-action midfielder has impressed greatly at St. Andrew’s and was rewarded for his efforts with his first goal in royal blue last time out, a 2-1 win over Bristol City.

When asked recently if Birmingham were hopeful of securing a permanent deal, Davies replied: “There is a possibility of that within the structure of the loan, and we’ve had internal discussions about what sort of squad we think can push us on next year, and we’ve been really happy with what he’s done.”

“Everyone needs to discuss that when the season finishes and see what can be done.”

Premier League interest could jeopardize Birmingham City’s prospects of re-signing Jhon Solis.

Ironically, this is not the first time Solis has purportedly been linked with Brentford; he was also linked with Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United while playing for Atlético National in his home Colombia.

Meanwhile, one of his first and greatest games for Blues came in a dramatic FA Cup fourth round defeat to Leeds on February 15th, and it is not surprising that Daniel Farke was thrilled by Solis’ display.

Solis, who has made a few games in the UEFA Champions League with Girona, still has a lot of potential at the age of 21.

However, while Birmingham would prefer the loan ace to stay at St. Andrew’s and grow with the club, the opportunity to play in the Premier League, and possibly Europe, considering Brentford’s current league position, may be too appealing to pass up.
