Birmingham City’s season is almost gone in terms of what Chris Davies’ side can achieve on the pitch, but they will undoubtedly be trying to get ahead of themselves heading into the 2026/27 season.
The Blues won their first game in almost a month, defeating play-off contenders Wrexham 2-0 at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
It was a welcome three points for Davies, who had previously begun to feel the heat over his position as manager, amid reports that director of football Craig Gardner is under similar pressure in B9 following the club’s overall underperformance when taking into account its significant investment in the playing squad as well as both short and long-term ambitions.
Last season’s record-breaking League One champions are currently 15th with four games remaining, with a maximum of 68 points available between now and the campaign’s completion on May 2nd.
That is the sum that Hull City presently holds, as the Tigers sit sixth in the Championship after becoming the division’s biggest overachiever under Sergej Jakirovic.
As a result, after defeating the Red Dragons in the West Midlands last time out, the Blues might, ironically, do the Tigers a favour by handing them their third defeat in six games at the MKM Stadium, and one player in particular will be hoping for the opportunity to silence his detractors in more ways than one.
Chris Davies discusses Marvin Ducksch’s selection attitude ahead of Hull City vs Birmingham City.

Marvin Ducksch has been in the headlines several times this season since his £1.75 million move from Werder Bremen in August, but the most recent developments involving the 32-year-old have been exceedingly controversial.
Indeed, the German attacker was left out of the Blues’ matchday squad against Wrexham owing to a “internal matter,” and he was accused in midweek with drink-driving and causing a three-vehicle collision near Henley-in-Arden on Easter Monday, for which he was arrested.
The Blues’ training ground is located in the aforementioned area, and the offense occurred at 10:30PM, hours after he played nine minutes as a substitute against Ipswich Town in a close 2-1 loss at Portman Road.
Unsurprisingly, the announcement has sparked a lot of fan resentment against the forward, who is presently the club’s leading scorer with 10 goals in 32 Championship games.
However, in his pre-match press conference, Davies stated that Ducksch will be available for selection ahead of the trip to East Yorkshire.
“The club obviously made a statement and Marvin has apologised publicly for what happened,” stated the Blues manager. “He apologised privately to me, the players, and the staff. He accepted full responsibility for what happened.
“From there, he resumed training sessions this week. There have been internal consequences for what transpired, and he has accepted all of them.
“He’s resumed training and is available for selection. We carry on from there.
Marvin Ducksch’s Birmingham City future is still up for dispute after a drink-driving charge.

Given his past transgressions, it remains to be seen how Ducksch will be received by the sold-out away end at the MKM Stadium this weekend, if he plays any part in the match.
Regardless, the striker’s future will be debated, especially since it was reported in March that he was garnering interest from clubs throughout Europe and the MLS, including Greek Super League and La Liga sides AEK Athens and Real Sociedad.
Meanwhile, now that the issue has been addressed, Davies’ whole attention will be on exacting revenge on Hull, who were the first team to defeat him at home in the league as Blues manager in October, in a thrilling game in which the visitors triumphed three goals to two.
