West Brom are in danger of relegation to League One this season under James Morrison.
The 39-year-old led the squad until the end of the season in February, when Eric Ramsay’s 44-day reign in the dugout came to an end.
With only four games remaining, the Baggies sit two points clear of the relegation zone and risk dropping out of the Championship.
Albion have not been outside of the top two divisions of English football since 1993, and the possibility of a points deduction may mean the difference between staying up and falling down.
Relegation rivals Leicester City have already been punished six points by the EFL for violating profit and sustainability guidelines (PSR), dropping them into the bottom three.
Here’s the latest news on a probable points deduction at West Brom…
West Brom’s alleged PSR breach

West Brom face a points deduction after the EFL accused the club with an alleged infringement of PSR.
The Telegraph reports that the charge is from last season’s accounts, but that any deduction might be enforced in current campaign.
Given how close the relegation battle is at the bottom of the Championship table, this might be crucial in determining the Baggies’ league fate.
It is expected to be a minor charge, but it could result in a point deduction, however no timetable has been provided for when a judgment would be made.
West Brom responds to EFL charges.

West Brom have responded to the charge that they violated the EFL’s PSR, stating that they did in fact follow the regulations.
While they fully intend to cooperate with the league’s investigation into the incident, they are confident that they are innocent and will not face any punishment.
“West Bromwich Albion acknowledges media reports relating to the club’s compliance with the EFL’s Profitability & Sustainability rules,” the club stated on its official website.
“The club believes it has completely complied with the P&S rules.
“The club will continue to cooperate with the EFL’s Club Financial Reporting Unit and hopes to resolve this issue.
“Albion understands supporters’ worries and expresses gratitude for their ongoing support of the squad, whose success on the pitch in the next four games of the season is our first goal.
“It would not be appropriate for the club to comment further at this stage.”
Football financial specialist files £1 million above the limit claim.

According to football financial specialist Kieran Maguire, West Brom’s infraction is likely to be minimal, with the club only exceeding the limit by roughly £1 million at most.
He feels they will face a modest punishment and not lose as many points as Leicester did if proven guilty.Maguire told the BBC that Albion were just about £1 million over the limit based on his calculations and lack of detailed data.Albion has cooperated with the EFL by adhering to a business plan. However, if they exceed the limit, a commission will be imposed.”But there’s a separate issue in that we’re almost at the end of the season and it’s not fair on Albion and the other clubs that are in the relegation dogfight as well.”A: whether there will be a charge. B. Whether they are innocent or guilty. C: Will tariffs be levied before the end of the season?I believe that many of these unknowns are causing a great deal of stress and distress for clubs, fans, owners, and everyone involved.”
He feels that someone behind the scenes at West Brom made an error in calculating their figures, and that there was no great plan by the club to overspend within the league’s rules.
According to the BBC, any penalized points might be as few as two or three compared to the Foxes.
Other potential punishments develop.

If West Brom is found to have violated PSR, the EFL’s penalty does not stop with a points deduction.
While a points deduction has been a popular tactic employed by both the league and the Premier League, the Mirror states that they have two more options available.
A transfer ban and a punishment are also expected if the Baggies are found guilty and fail to appeal.
Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday were each docked six points this season, while Everton and Nottingham Forest were docked eight and four points, respectively, during the 2023/24 Premier League season.
