Ex-Ipswich Town star makes claim to potential Kieran McKenna will take over as manager of Nottingham Forest

Alan Brazil, a former Ipswich Town player and current talkSPORT pundit, has been debating whether current Tractor Boys manager Kieran McKenna should take over as manager of Nottingham Forest after Sean Dyche left the club.

The Reds have lost their third manager this season, following Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou. He previously led Watford, Burnley, and Everton.

The final straw for controversial owner Evangelos Marinakis came on Wednesday night, when Forest were unable to break down a resolute defensive effort from Premier League’s bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers at the City Ground, despite mustering a staggering 35 attempts against Rob Edwards’ side.

Dyche and his coaching staff were relieved of their duties shortly after the final whistle, and all eyes are now on who will be the man to guide Forest to eventual Premier League safety, as well as their upcoming UEFA Europa League knockout campaign, which begins with a two-legged play-off against Turkish Süper Lig giants Fenerbahçe.

Forest’s goalless draw against the Old Gold and Black in midweek saw them fail to close the gap on West Ham United to five points, which would have also brought them level with Tottenham Hotspur in 16th place, with the North London side dismissing Thomas Frank on Wednesday morning following their 11th league defeat of the season against Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

McKenna, of course, could be switching positions in the pyramid with any of the aforementioned sides next season, depending on circumstances, with Ipswich now third in the Championship, five points behind Coventry City, who are second.

The Northern Irishman has also been widely connected with many moves away from Portman Road in the last two years, and now the aforementioned Brazil has questioned if a move to the City Ground would be the best option for all parties.

Forest confirmed Dyche’s dismissal at 00:31 on Thursday morning, sparking conjecture over who may succeed him.

The Athletic claims that the Reds’ administration is already in talks with former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira about the potential of the Portuguese head coach taking over at the City Ground.

The 57-year-old’s links will also pique the curiosity of Championship clubs, with the Leicester City board reportedly interested in him following Marti Cifuentes’ sacking on January 25th.

As previously said, talk about McKenna’s long-term future is nothing new for Ipswich fans, as he has been linked with Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United over the years.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday morning, Brazil feels the 39-year-old will wait to see what happens at Old Trafford in the coming weeks, with former Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick in interim command.

He stated, “I believe Kieran McKenna is in a great position for the Forest job.” But is he sitting tight, waiting for the (Manchester United) job?”

Ipswich Town will hope their promotion charge isn’t hampered by Kieran McKenna conjecture.

At the moment, Ipswich will hope that more conjecture linking McKenna with a move away from Suffolk does not ruin their promotion bid.

It is widely documented that the Town manager is one of the country’s most highly regarded homegrown managers as a result of his success at Portman Road, which saw Ipswich promoted from League One to the Premier League in consecutive seasons.

Supporters will be reassured that a purported compensation price in excess of £5 million is a huge impediment to any side pursuing McKenna.
