Ipswich Town blasted for ‘confusing’ transfer approach following club-record Millwall deal.

Ipswich Town have been questioned about making a deadline-day move for Millwall’s Femi Azeez, given the options they already have out wide.

The Tractor Boys are aiming for a quick return to the Premier League this season, and in the January transfer window, they signed Dan Neil from Sunderland and Anis Mehmeti from Bristol City to boost Kieran McKenna’s team.

However, it was clear that Ipswich wanted to make more transactions, since they had been looking for a new striker and made a late attempt for Azeez.

Ipswich’s interest in Millwall’s Femi Azeez appears questionable.

While the desire for a striker is understood considering the paucity of goals from George Hirst, Ivan Azon, and Chuba Akpom, the interest in Azeez was unexpected.

The Millwall man’s talent is undeniable, and he has seven Championship goals this season, but Ipswich spent a lot of money on two right wingers over the summer.

The team smashed the league record by signing Sindre Walle Egeli for roughly £17.5 million, while they paid Leicester City around £12 million for Kasey McAteer. Even though the combination has yet to reach the heights that many expected, they should still be viable possibilities for McKenna at this stage.

Some were astonished to see Ipswich make a bid for Azeez, which would have been a club record sale for Millwall, exceeding the £12 million they received for Romain Esse.

given asked about this by FLW, Ipswich fan pundit Adam admitted he didn’t understand why the club pursued Azeez given they already had Egeli and McAteer, comparing the situation to Chelsea.

“I think the striker position is a little more reasonable considering the dearth of choices in the window, and no major Championship sides signed a number nine, as January is a difficult month to get a striker.

“But I was perplexed by the Azeez links, given the quantity of right wingers in the building and the money we’ve spent on them.

“Egeli will take time and is certainly a future prospect, but I’m shocked McAteer hasn’t been given as many opportunities as I expected by now.

“Azeez is undoubtedly a terrific player, but I’m concerned that we’re following Chelsea’s lead and simply accumulating talent in the hopes of obtaining resale value for it. I’m not sure you’d make much money on Azeez if you bid £14.5 million, and I’m not sure we would on McAteer given what we spent, and it’s unclear whether we’ll make a profit on Egeli.

“So, it has been a confusing transfer strategy for me.”

Kieran McKenna has the quality to win promotion with Ipswich Town.

Azeez has been brilliant for Millwall, and anyone who has seen him play this season will agree that he could have contributed to the Ipswich squad.

However, it was surprising in the sense that Egeli and McAteer were big signings for the Suffolk club, and one would have expected them to be given more time to establish themselves.

Millwall’s intentions to gain promotion made it improbable that they would allow Azeez leave, and this proved to be the case.

It remains to be seen whether they will return for Azeez in the summer, but if the Lions do not win promotion, he is certain to have a large fan base.

Ipswich’s primary priority is earning promotion, and despite failing to sign Azeez or a striker, McKenna’s side is still capable of finishing in the automatic spots.
