It is widely documented that the Blues have not been afraid to exercise their financial muscles under Knighthead Capital Management’s ownership in order to bring Premier League football back to St. Andrew’s at Knighthead Park as soon as possible.
Such advancements have been particularly noticeable during Davies’ term as manager, which began in June 2024 when the former Tottenham Hotspur assistant was offered a four-year contract in the West Midlands.
The 40-year-old quickly saw Birmingham break their own, and the League One transfer record, with the eight-figure acquisition of Jay Stansfield from Fulham, while Kyogo Furuhashi was also signed for a large fee last summer as one of 14 new players recruited after the club returned to the Championship.
Blues have had a mixed season thus far, sitting on the outskirts of the play-offs, which would ordinarily constitute an exceptionally strong first season after promotion.
However, with the spotlight squarely on the club due to Tom Wagner’s ambitious immediate and long-term future plans, it is clear that the club is not content with consolidation, as they are only five points below the top six with 17 games remaining, despite the fact that the league remains incredibly congested.
Eight players have left the Second City since the window opened on New Year’s Day, as reported by Football League World, while five new players have joined.
With Birmingham still lacking depth and quality in certain areas, Football League World’s Blues fan pundit, Jason Moore, has identified two players who would be late ‘dream transfers’ to add to the previous acquisitions of Kai Wagner, Jhon Solis, Ibrahim Osman, August Priske, and Carlos Vicente.
Birmingham City is advised to make ambitious transfer moves for Jacob Greaves and Giorgi Chakvetadze.

Moore believes the Blues need more defensive depth and a creative spark in the ‘number 10′ role inside Davies’ preferred 4-2-3-1 configuration.
The aforementioned addition of Wagner appeared to have solved his problems at left-back, but the Birmingham manager has now stated that another signing in that position may be made due to Alex Cochrane’s long-term injury, as well as fitness concerns about Lee Buchanan.
Following the expiration of Eiran Cashin’s loan, Birmingham now has only three senior centre-backs. One of those is presently sidelined, Jack Robinson, while Phil Neumann’s exit is still being discussed.
Moore feels Jacob Greaves of Ipswich Town should be on the club’s radar. The former Hull City academy graduate has had a mixed run at Portman Road since his £15 million arrival in July 2024, ahead of Town’s lone Premier League campaign.According to him, the Blues require a center-back, ideally a ’10’ capable of dictating play.Despite my admiration for Tommy Doyle and Paik, Jay Stansfield, and Marvin Ducksch are not my favorites. If we’re going to sign a centre-back, I believe we should look for big guys with true quality. “If it were me, I would look at Jacob Greaves.”He isn’t playing every game; they appear to prefer a different partnership. “I’d be testing the waters for him; I really like Greaves,” Moore said.
Moore’s second ‘dream signing’ is Watford’s Georgian playmaker, Giorgi Chakvetadze, who has impressed twice against the Blues since recovering from an early-season injury.Moore indicated he would try to recruit Chakvetadze from Watford for the ’10’.

“Both times we’ve played Watford this season, he’s looked a ‘absolute player’, and play ticks over whenever he’s on the ball.”They’re the two I’d go for. “Whether we have the money for them is another story.”
Jacob Greaves and Giorgi Chakvetadze would be two good signings to Birmingham City.
As Moore mentioned, it remains to be seen whether Blues will be able to entice either Greaves or Chakvetadze to St. Andrews. However, there is no denying the excellence that both would offer in different ways.
Greaves is highly regarded despite his mixed period in Suffolk, as he provides an aerial presence that is useful in both boxes while still being composed on the ball.
During his time with Ipswich and Hull, the 25-year-old has also played left-back when necessary, and he would bring different traits to Wagner, who has already produced two assists since his own move.
Meanwhile, Chakvetadze’s ability at Championship level has been well documented for some time, and Blues fans got a first-hand look at it during a substitute cameo at St. Andrew’s despite his side’s 2-1 defeat, before the playmaker provided his first assist of the season for Tom Ince, who scored a hat-trick against the two clubs on New Year’s Day.
However, with both Ipswich and Watford battling for promotion or the play-offs, a strong set of conditions would be required for these moves to take place soon.
