Southampton are allegedly interested in signing a new striker over the remainder of the winter transfer window, which means either Cameron Archer or Adam Armstrong might depart the club before the February 2nd deadline.
This is according to TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, who tweeted that there is “plenty of interest” in the Saints duo as the deadline next Monday approaches.
It’s not surprising that Southampton is seeking for a new striker, especially after approving Damion Downs’ loan move to Hamburg earlier in the window, while Ross Stewart’s fitness remains a concern following several injury issues since his signing from Sunderland.
Archer’s goal-scoring record is also disappointing, with only two league goals this season, and while Armstrong has 11 goals this season, his minutes have been spread out under Tonda Eckert, resulting in a nine-game goal drought.
The Saints have also won just one of their last nine second-tier games, so there is hope that if they liven up the forward department, they will be able to get the goals flowing at the top end of the pitch and pick up three points more consistently.
It could be a hectic time at Southampton before the deadline on February 2nd, with movement expected both inside and outside the facility.
Journalist gives Southampton FC transfer report as Cameron Archer and Adam Armstrong’s futures are up in the air.

According to a tweet by TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Southampton are looking for a new striker before the winter transfer window closes, which might lead to a move away for Cameron Archer or Adam Armstrong.
There is allegedly a lot of interest in both forwards, who have a great track record of scoring regularly in the second division.
It’s hardly surprising that talk has increased as a result of the Saints’ willingness to split company with one of their forwards.
In recent days, journalist Alan Nixon revealed that Wrexham have expressed interest in Armstrong and may make a £15 million deal to bring the former Championship Golden Boot winner to North Wales.
Archer has yet to get any publicized attention, but that is likely to change considering that the former Middlesbrough player scored 11 and assisted six in 20 second-tier outings at the Riverside Stadium during the 2022-23 season.
Southampton should split ways with Cameron Archer over Adam Armstrong.

Southampton should prioritise Cameron Archer’s exit since he is third in the pecking order under Tonda Eckert.
The 24-year-old has only started six games this season, totaling 604 minutes in 19 appearances, indicating that Saints manager Tonda Eckert does not believe he can make the necessary impact.
Small cameos off the bench have severely limited his goal scoring output, and his choice to stay an unused replacement in the previous two Championship games may have been taken to ensure he does not get hurt before they find a buyer.
Adam Armstrong is still heavily involved in first-team matters, and while his minutes have been reduced due to Ross Stewart’s competition, the Championship marksman has 11 goals for the season, with the remaining ones crucial to the Saints’ rise up the table and into the promotion mix.
There will be some anxiety about his inability to reach the back of the net in his previous nine appearances, but the 28-year-old has demonstrated throughout his career that he is a threat at this level and will undoubtedly return to form in the near future.
As a result, if the Saints do sign another striker, Archer should be the one to make way, considering Armstrong’s potential to play a key role in taking Southampton back to the Premier League.
