Following Sheffield Wednesday’s and Derby County’s takeover interest, a new update on John Textor is revealed.

Only a few months after expressing interest in acquiring two different Championship clubs, John Textor was fired from his role as director of Eagle Football Holdings.

In June, the American investor resigned as the majority stakeholder of Olympique Lyonnais, a French team that was having financial difficulties. Only one month later, the club filed an appeal and maintained their top flight status.

After the Eagles won the FA Cup the season before, he sold Woody Johnson his share of Crystal Palace, a Premier League team, in July. After that, the 60-year-old focused on the Championship, initially trying to save Sheffield Wednesday.

Hillsborough was relieved when Dejphon Chansiri decided to place the Owls in administration during the summer, but he subsequently acknowledged that this interest was “overstated.” There are still a lot of unanswered concerns regarding Textor’s football career after Alan Nixon said shortly after that he was considering Derby County.

As Botafogo’s departure draws closer, the football holding company fires John Textor.

French publication l’Equipe reported on Wednesday that Textor had been fired by Eagle Football Holdings, a football holding group that manages Botafogo in Brazil, Lyon in France, and RWDM Brussels in Belgium.

But investor Ares fired the American after allegedly attempting to take over Lyon once more, and his role at Botafogo is also under scrutiny.

Since taking over as manager of the Brazilian team in 2022, Textor has led the team to both a league title and the Copa Libertadores. But with the aftermath from Wednesday’s meeting with Lyon leaders, his position in South America is in jeopardy, and he might be fired.

However, only the Rio de Janeiro court or the board of directors of the Société Anonyme de Football have the authority to decide his future in Botafogo.

David Clowes would not change his strategy in response to Derby County’s possible acquisition.

Nixon added that Derby is available for £60 million, as Clowes seeks to attract substantial funding to assist his team advance to the Premier League and beyond in the years to come.

There is presently no news on a possible takeover of the Rams, and Clowes is adamant about selling the Championship team, so it appears unlikely that Textor will be involved.

Derby’s owner wants to manage the East Midlands team with “Integrity, Progress, and Stability,” which may be something Clowes wants to avoid given Textor’s circumstances in Europe and South America.

Talk of an American takeover appears to be a thing of the past, but Sheffield Wednesday is still under administration.
