Derby County have announced that goalkeeper Josh Vickers has signed a new contract at Pride Park, extending his tenure until 2029.
The Rams signed the 30-year-old in the summer of 2023, and he was instrumental in supporting up Joe Wildsmith between the posts in DE24 during his team’s League One promotion quest.
He appeared seven times in the third tier, as the East Midlands club finished second behind Portsmouth, with the former Rotherham United goalkeeper maintaining two clean sheets.
Last season, Vickers began the season while Derby had to wait for Jacob Widell Zetterstrom’s £1.4 million transfer from Djurgardens to be confirmed. An injury to the Sweden international forced the Rams’ second-choice goalkeeper into action as the team avoided relegation, and he has now signed a new contract.
Josh Vickers confirms his future to Derby County with new deal.
Vickers signed a three-year contract with the Championship side while Paul Warne was manager, and there is little doubt about how valuable he has been to the club throughout his time there.

While it appeared that he would be leaving Derby this summer, with his contract about to expire, he has agreed to stay until the summer of 2029, and he will be hoping to support the goalkeeping department as the Rams seek promotion to the Premier League in the coming years.
Vickers has excelled in his second-choice job, and when called upon, Eustace has a highly reliable goalie on his roster.
In 2024/25, he received the club’s ‘Save of the Season’ award for his outstanding save against West Bromwich Albion’s Tom Fellows in a 3-1 victory at The Hawthorns, which prevented Derby from being relegated to League One.
Questions about Jacob Widell Zetterstrom’s future may be asked during the summer.
Vickers has had to watch from the bench this season, as Zetterstrom’s efforts have rendered him nearly unstoppable.
According to Alan Nixon, this has sparked attention from first Brentford and then fierce rivals Nottingham Forest, with Sky Sports stating earlier this season that the Premier League club was keeping an eye on the 27-year-old player.

However, Derby have since placed a £15 million price tag on their number one and informed rival teams that he will not be sold this month. However, with Vickers already signed for the long haul, the Rams may be preparing for life without Zetterstrom.
This summer, there will be a surge of interest in the Swedish shot-stopper, but with security on their number two, the Championship side has all the cards.
