Sheffield United’s priority for the last week of the January transfer window remains to sign a central midfielder.
The transfer window will end next Monday (February 2), and at Bramall Lane, there have been more outgoings than incomings.
However, according to the Sheffield Star, the ideal scenario at Sheffield United will see three new faces arrive in the coming week, with the emphasis on adding another body to an engine room that has been plagued by injury and suspension throughout the campaign thus far.
Sydie Peck, Jairo Riedewald, and Djirbril Soumare have all been out for parts of the season, while Oliver Arblaster has returned after a 13-month layoff due to an ACL injury, and Tom Davies and Jamie Shackleton have made few appearances.
And, after missing out on some targets in recent days, the Blades are hoping to add at least one new name to the middle of the park before the window closes.
Sheffield United’s transfer priority disclosed, with timetable hinted ahead of Millwall.

With nine points separating Sheffield United from the top six, the focus in the final week of the transfer window will be on ensuring that the squad is prepared to go on a long winning streak in the final 16 games in order to qualify for the play-offs.
The Bramall Lane-based team has put on some truly eye-opening displays this season, but their 3-1 victory against Ipswich Town on Saturday emphasized the potential that they still possess, a quality that they must duplicate more often between now and May.
As a result, it is unsurprising that the Sheffield Star has disclosed that the Blades intend to add three new players to their roster in the next week. Two of them should be in the door by Saturday’s trip to Millwall, with the emphasis on bringing in a central midfielder.
This season, Peck has been Chris Wilder’s most constant intermediary in terms of Championship appearances, although he has also missed six league games. Soumare and Riedewald are now sidelined due to suspension and injuries, while Arblaster is gradually returning to the fold after a long absence.
Sheffield United were interested in Dan Neil, but he will be loaned to Ipswich for the rest of the season. This has led to a “difficult” week for Wilder, but he remains optimistic about the future. It’s been a very terrible week, but it’s not from above. The board has done an excellent job of looking for ways to help us accomplish our goals. “It’s been challenging to close deals,” Wilder remarked after Saturday’s victory. We’ve moved some players on and will most likely move a couple more. With the ins, I’d like to believe there will be two coming in, which we require. “The board has been supportive.”
Chris Wilder is choosing to stay hopeful as time runs out to make signings.

Throughout the bulk of the winter window, Chris Wilder’s priority has been to reduce a bloated roster and eliminate players who were brought in to fit a different system under Ruben Selles.
However, that has not been the primary objective; quality additions were also expected to be made. However, with only six days remaining, only Ki-Jana Hoever has arrived at Bramall Lane.
There will be expectations that this will not be the case come next Monday, and while Chris Wilder admits it has been difficult to negotiate deals, he remains optimistic and is confident that he will have as near to a full-strength side ready to compete for a spot in the top six.
To ensure this, there must be more stability in the midfield, but if that is not possible, there must be strong back-ups if Riedewald and Peck miss further time due to injury later in the season.
So, a center midfielder is the priority, and Blades fans will be waiting patiently to see who arrives before the end of this week.
