Birmingham City’s transfer window has turned out to be extremely busy on all fronts, with Knighthead Capital Management sanctioning a slew of incomings and outgoings this month – and Football League World can now exclusively reveal another impending departure from St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.
Birmingham have yet to regularly deliver on well-documented internal and external promotion expectations following last season’s record-breaking League One title-winning campaign, and Chris Davies’ team is currently 13th with only 17 matches remaining.
They are, however, still just five points behind fellow big-spenders Wrexham in sixth place, and will be seeking to boost their play-off chances with a slew of acquisitions throughout January.
The Blues have already brought Ibrahim Osman, August Priske, Jhon Solis, and in-form left-back Kai Wagner to the West Midlands in eye-catching deals ahead of Carlos Vicente’s impending arrival from Deportivo Alaves, and Davies has also attempted to streamline his squad by letting a number of fringe players leave.

Indeed, Birmingham has experienced a total of eight exits. Eiran Cashin and Lewis Koumas’ mixed loan spells were cut short, Emil Hansson and Alfons Sampsted returned to the Eredivisie, Marc Leonard joined Hearts on loan, and Keshi Anderson, Lyndon Dykes, and Dion Sanderson all remained in the Championship after leaving, joining Portsmouth, Charlton Athletic, and Derby County, respectively.
And, as the February 2 deadline approaches, FLW has discovered that Birmingham is prepared to allow a ninth player depart the club.
Birmingham City is expected to penalize Menzi Mazwi’s loan exit sparks EFL interest.
Football League World can exclusively reveal that the player in question is Menzi Mazwi, a highly regarded academy product.
FLW understands that Birmingham have opted to make a decision on the 19-year-old’s immediate future. He signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2024 and is now set to go out on loan for the remainder of the season in order to acquire senior minutes elsewhere.
It’s believed that Mazwi is receiving loan interest from a number of clubs throughout the EFL, with suitors in League Two and potentially League One likely to be keen on the left-back’s services.
Mazwi, who has two international caps for Zimbabwe, is yet to make his senior debut for Birmingham despite appearing in each of the Blues’ last seven matchday squads.
With competition only increasing following Wagner’s aforementioned arrival, it has been decided that the ex-Wales youth international would spend the remainder of the season away from Birmingham, a move that appears to benefit all sides.
The Bluenoses will be watching closely to see where the teenager ends up and how he performs, with a good loan term elsewhere potentially opening the door for Mazwi to muscle his way into Davies’ first-team plans.
