Leicester City have fired manager Marti Cifuentes after losing 2-1 at home to Oxford United, but they may also face transfer disappointment.
Leicester are stuck in mid-table, potentially losing a season’s worth of parachute payments by failing to compete for promotion. They are still looking for reinforcements to strengthen their prospects of making the playoffs.
Leicester must now replace Cifuentes and have a solid final week of the transfer window, as they have made no signings in the winter market to date.
Leicester have lost more games than they have won, despite having attacking skills such as Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi. They are 14th, nine points above the bottom three and six points behind sixth-placed Wrexham.
Given the squad’s talent, many would argue that they should be playing better. However, new additions are always welcome and serve as a method to re-energize and engage people.
Leicester City will miss out on GAIS striker Ibrahim Diabate.

Acquiring a goal-scoring striker this month would surely help the Midlands club make a stronger push for the play-offs, especially now that Julian Carranza’s loan from Feyenoord has been canceled.
Over a week ago, it was claimed that Leicester had agreed to sign GAIS forward Ibrahim Diabate ahead of Wrexham. He finished as the Allsvenskan’s top scorer, partnering August Priske from Birmingham City.
The duo scored 18 league goals each in a league with a maximum of 30 matches. The Foxes have not had a productive scorer since club hero Jamie Vardy left to join Serie A team Cremonese last summer.
With Fatawu on six league goals, Jordan James on nine, and Jordan Ayew and Bobby Reid on five each, it’s evident that Leicester’s forward line has struggled for goals.
However, they are now facing transfer disappointment with Diabate. According to Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett, the 26-year-old was targeted by the Foxes earlier this month, but he has now agreed to join Sharjah FC. That’s because GAIS has reached an agreement with the UAE club for the striker.
Leicester City to sanction loan exit for striker.
Leicester are set to release a forward after failing to sign a top striker. Pete O’Rourke has an update on a 17-year-old forward on their roster.
Jake Evans is scheduled to join League One club Northampton Town on loan. The 2008-born striker has made four appearances for the club, coming on as a substitute in 2024/25 on many occasions.
He is yet to appear for the senior team this season, having been an unused replacement in Leicester’s FA Cup victory against Cheltenham Town a few weeks ago, as well as three Championship games this season.
Evans did not come off the bench for three consecutive games against Derby County, Bristol City, and Ipswich Town. This was the last time he was named as a substitute in a league game.
