Birmingham City agree £7 million deal to sign attacker on three-and-a-half-year contract.

Birmingham City have agreed in principle to sign Alaves winger Carlos Vicente for a reputed £7 million.

Birmingham City have signed an agreement in principle to recruit Alaves winger Carlos Vicente, according to Noticias de Alava.

Birmingham City are reportedly interested in signing Carlos Vicente from Alaves. The winger has been brilliant this season, scoring five goals in 20 La Liga games, but he is now likely to transfer to the Championship to St Andrews.

Spanish outlet According to Noticias de Alava, Birmingham City has’reached an agreement in principle’ to sign Vicente for a €8 million fee (£6.94 million), with negotiations on a three-and-a-half year contract with the Blues in the ‘final stages’.

So far this month, Chris Davies’ BCFC has signed four new players: Jhon Solis and Ibrahim Osman on loan, Kai Wagner and August Priske on permanent contracts. The club’s January transfer spending has now reached about £10 million.

Who is Birmingham City’s new signing, Carlos Vicente?

Last summer, Birmingham City attempted to sign Vicente, but Alaves were determined to keep the 26-year-old Spaniard. Vicente began his career with his hometown team Zaragoza before establishing himself in Spanish football’s lower leagues.

Vicente’s big break came in 2024, when he joined Alaves. In 82 games for the clubs, he has scored 17 goals and assisted 13 others. He first joined the La Liga team for roughly £500,000 and is now leaving for £7 million, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2027.

Vicente plays predominantly as a right winger but can also operate as a no.10.

What’s next for Birmingham City during the January transfer window?

Following the purchase of Vicente, Birmingham City appears to be looking into more player departures, with Dion Sanderson and Lyndon Dykes among those who have already departed the club this month.

Kyogo Furuhashi is one among those that could depart the BCFC. Recent rumors have suggested that Birmingham City’s Championship rivals Swansea City are interested in signing Furuhashi, however it is believed that the player’s BCFC salaries are now too high for Swansea to make a move.

Davies still has a number of marginal players that he may potentially offload before the February 2nd transfer deadline, particularly in the midfield and offensive departments, as well as a handful of younger players who are not currently playing in the first team and could leave BCFC on loan.

However, expect signings to be the primary focus. Vicente’s arrival may consume the remainder of Birmingham City’s January transfer budget, but it is an intriguing acquisition that might propel the club into play-off contention in the second half of the season.
