Josh Sargent News: Norwich City Fallout, Preferred Option, and Brad Friedel Reaction

Josh Sargent’s time at Norwich City appears to be coming to an end, with the striker reportedly on the verge of leaving the club.

The USA international has been with the Canaries for four and a half years, having joined from German club Werder Bremen, and he has been a key player on the pitch in recent seasons.

However, after 157 games, 56 goals, and 15 assists, Sargent is expected to leave the Championship club following strong interest in his services in both the summer and now the January transfer window.

Football League World has compiled the most recent news about the 25-year-old, which coincides with the transfer window closing on February 2.

Josh Sargent had a serious fallout with the Norwich City officials.

According to reports on Wednesday, Sargent was ‘visibly upset’ after meeting with Norwich’s sporting director, Ben Knapper, and Phillipe Clement.

The forward has been left out of the Canaries’ previous three squads, and according to The Athletic’s MLS Insider, Tom Bogert, tensions have reached an all-time high.

He continued: “After a heated meeting with Norwich City sporting director Ben Knapper and head coach Philippe Clement, it appears that Josh Sargent has played his last game for the club.”Sargent was plainly upset. According to one account, a statement against Sargent’s family was the final straw. As he pursues a move to Toronto FC, he continues to practice with the second team. Negotiations between TFC and Norwich are ongoing.

It has been a surprising turn in Sargent’s transfer narrative, and there appears to be no way back for all parties.

Josh Sargent rejects two Premier League sides as his desired destination.

While Burnley and Wolfsburg passed on Sargent over the summer, teams from Europe’s top leagues have approached him again this month.

Both Leeds United and Sunderland have expressed interest in the American, but TEAMtalk reports that neither has been successful in bringing the 25-year-old to the Premier League.

Instead, MLS club Toronto appears to have won the battle for the Norwich star, and he will return to North America to try to secure a spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s World Cup team in Canada, Mexico, and his home country of the United States.

As Sargent’s time in the EFL comes to an end, Toronto is reportedly hoping to sign him for a £15 million fee.

Brad Friedel comments in on Josh Sargent and the Norwich City predicament

This is a significant transfer window for players all across the world, as preparations for this summer’s World Cup intensify, and finding excellent form is critical to their prospects of making the tournament.

Sargent appears to be a member of that group, and USA great and former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel has endorsed the Norwich player in this position. He told Goal, “It depends on family life and what’s going on in your life. Can the MLS compete with the Championship in England and Norwich? You could make that argument.

“If you’re talking about [Weston] McKennie and [Christian] Pulisic, they wouldn’t be heading to the Championship in England; they’d probably be signed by one of the top eight clubs in the Premier League. “This is a completely different argument.”If Toronto, which is looking to develop another competitive squad, sees Josh Sargent as the person, and Josh is fighting for relegation in the Championship, I can understand why he wants to go there. However, I believe that if you are called to play or train, you should do both. The transactions will either work out or not work out, and that is how it is.”
