Ipswich Town completes Bristol City raid; 7-figure transfer fee revealed

Ipswich Town are likely to spend a seven-figure fee to recruit Bristol City’s playmaker Anis Mehmeti.

According to the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (January 23, 12:08pm), the offensive midfielder passed his medical after the two teams reached an agreement, and the transfer has now been official.

The 25-year-old has been a crucial role for the Robins under Gerhard Struber, but is now likely to join their Championship opponents on a permanent basis.

The Albania international has eight goals and six assists in 28 league appearances this season, helping Bristol City compete for a playoff spot.

However, the expiration of his contract in June sparked doubts about his future at Ashton Gate, and he has already left the club well before the February 2 deadline.

Ipswich Town won the contest to sign Bristol City attacker Anis Mehmeti.

Ipswich were allegedly close to completing the signing of Mehmeti following an agreement with Bristol City, which has now been confirmed, with the Tractor Boys expected to pay a guaranteed £3 million to their Championship opponents as part of the transaction.

Town appear to have moved quickly for the creative spark after being linked earlier in the week to his signing, and he has ties to Town’s fierce rivals Norwich City, having spent two years in the club’s academy before slipping into non-league in 2019.

The 25-year-old was garnering a lot of attention this month, thanks to the expiration of his contract at the conclusion of the season, as well as his great performances for Struber’s team.

Wolves in the Premier League had been connected with Bristol City’s number 11, but Ipswich have now won the battle to recruit him in order to enhance their promotion prospects, which will come as an added bonus with Jaden Philogene presently out.

Ipswich Town’s purchase for Anis Mehmeti could be a bargain – and a major blow for Bristol City.

A £3 million agreement for Mehmeti might be an excellent addition for Ipswich, given it is a reasonable price for someone of his proven ability in the Championship.

The Albanian international has impressed for Bristol City, and a player of his caliber might be critical for Town in their quest for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

This may be a major coup for the Tractor Boys, demonstrating the value of signing a player with an expiring contract.

It will be devastating for Bristol City to lose someone of such quality for so little, and replacing him will be a real challenge in the final few days of the January window, but they will have cash to spend after receiving a sell-on from Antoine Semenyo’s move to Manchester City, so Gerhard Struber will need to be supported so that the Robins can push for the play-offs with some new additions in attack.
