Sheffield Wednesday broke an unwelcome Championship record as the club paid the price for a terrible cash problem.

Sheffield Wednesday is now on the longest winless streak in Championship history.

Last night’s 2-0 loss at home to Birmingham City became the Owls’ 21st consecutive league game without victory.

With their FA Cup defeat to Brentford earlier this month, their losing run now stands at 22 games.

Wednesday’s terrible run began in September and has left them with an unfavorable Championship record.

The Owls haven’t won a home league game in NINE MONTHS, with only a 2-0 win over Portsmouth at Fratton Park and Carabao Cup shootout victories over Bolton and Leeds to their credit.

Manager Henrik Pedersen took over in July, and his victory rate, excluding shootouts, is just 3.23 percent.

This new milestone, marked by a 21st consecutive draw or defeat on Tuesday, is yet another tragic indictment of a club in disarray.

Wednesday were thrown into administration in October after creditors, including HMRC, filed a winding-up action against the club.

Dejphon Chansiri, the disgraced former owner, has been banned from owning or serving on the board of any EFL club for three years.

The Owls have received 18-point deductions this season and failed to pay players in March, May, and June of last year.

Overall, Wednesday is on -7 points and 35 points from safety with 19 games remaining.

And it might get worse as club great Barry Bannan is being linked with a move away during this month’s transfer window.

Following the Birmingham defeat, Pedersen praised his team for persevering under difficult conditions.

The Dane stated, “I have great regard for the boys. It’s not natural what they’re doing; it’s fantastic.”

Regarding whether it was Bannan’s last appearance after nearly 500 games in blue and white, Pedersen added: “I hope he stays, of course.

“We speak every day, and of course, we discuss his and our situations. Lets see what happens. “I hope he stays here.”
