Tonda Eckert releases a new Southampton FC transfer update.

Tonda Eckert has hinted that Southampton intends to make acquisitions during the closing days of the January transfer window.

The Saints have struggled for form in recent weeks, winning none of their past seven Championship games.

This has put pressure on the head coach, who may lose his job despite only being appointed as Will Still’s permanent replacement on December 5.

The Hampshire club hopes to return to the Premier League on their first attempt, but they are already a point behind the play-off places.

Southampton made only one addition in January, loaning Daniel Peretz from Bayern Munich for the second half of the season.

Eckert has stated that Southampton is attempting to avoid making any frantic moves in response to their dismal run, having won only three points since their victory against West Brom on December 9.

He expects the club will make a move in the market before the January window closes on February 2nd, allowing them just under two weeks to complete any remaining deals.”We shouldn’t make any desperate decisions,” Eckert told Alfie House on X.

“There are still a few days and I am sure we will make something happen.”

Southampton are seeking to return to the Premier League on their first attempt, but their recent defeats have left them with a little chance of even making the play-offs.

The Saints sit 15th in the table after last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Hull City, and fans have began to express their dissatisfaction with Eckert as a result of their poor form.

The 33-year-old’s team is 10 points behind the top six after 27 games, with some of their opponents even having a game in hand at this point.

Southampton’s next game is at home against Sheffield United on Wednesday at 7.45pm.

Tonda Eckert’s predicament complicates the January market for Southampton.

If Eckert isn’t going to be in charge of the first team for much longer, which appears to be the case, the club will have a difficult time acting in the winter market.

A defeat against Sheffield United could be enough to force another change in the dugout, and the club should resist bringing in new players unless a permanent replacement is set up.

It’s just another evidence of the mismanagement at the heart of Southampton’s disappointing season.

Avoiding any reactive or desperate movements in the final two weeks will also be critical, since it is possible to end up with a substandard contract at this point in the window if you are not careful.
