Birmingham City agrees multi-million pound deal for 18-goal striker

Birmingham City have reportedly agreed to pay at least seven million euros to acquire August Priske from Swedish Allsvenskan club Djurgardens IF.

According to Danish magazine Tipsbladet, the 21-year-old striker is expected to travel in the West Midlands on Monday to conclude the agreement, which will see him play in English football for the first time in his career.

Blues have been highly associated with a slew of players across many positions during the current winter transfer window, after the club’s ambitions for the period were widely publicized in the run-up to the window’s opening on New Year’s Day.

So far, Chris Davies has addressed major issues in the left-back department with the signing of German full-back, Kai Wagner, from Philadelphia Union, which came in the early days of the window, before the Second City outfit also confirmed the initial loan capture of Girona FC’s Colombian midfielder, Jhon Solis, in the hours leading up to the 1-1 draw against Swansea City in South Wales on Saturday evening – though it has also been widely claimed that the 21-year-old

Meanwhile, Football League World exclusively disclosed in the opening week of the window that Lyndon Dykes’ departure would only be approved by the Birmingham authorities if a competent successor was found.

On Thursday, he became the seventh player to depart B9 this window, signing a short-term agreement with Championship rivals Charlton Athletic.

However, those links came just hours after early rumours of Priske’s prospective move to the Midlands surfaced, and reports now indicate that a deal between Blues and Djurgardens has moved rapidly.

Birmingham City is closing in on a €7 million+ agreement for Djurgardens striker August Priske.

As previously stated, initial links between Priske and the ambitious second-tier club arose on Thursday, with Blues reportedly emerging as front-runners in a strong contest for his signature ahead of Turkish Süper Lig giants Besiktas and French top flight club LOSC Lille.

The article also suggested, via Tipsbladet, that talks between Djurgardens and Birmingham were nearing completion.

Shortly after such claims surfaced, Djurgardens sporting director Bosse Andersson revealed that “there has been contact with a lot of clubs during this transfer window,” regarding whether Priske would leave the Stockholm-based side ahead of the start of their 2026 campaign, which begins with three Swedish cup group stage fixtures, the first of which is against Falkenberg on February 22nd.

Andersson also claimed back in October that a sale for Priske would outweigh the eventual overall amount earned by Djurgardens from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in the deal that brought Lucas Bergvall to North London under Ange Postecoglou in February 2024.

However, after talks appeared to progress between the relevant parties while the Blues picked up their first point away from St. Andrew’s since November 26th, it appears that such a development will not be the case in terms of the profits that Andersson would have liked to have registered for Priske, who joined from Danish Superliga club FC Midtjylland for a reported €300,000 in the summer of 2024.

That’s because, according to Tipsbladet’s latest update on the transfer saga, an agreement has been reached that will see Priske move to Birmingham for a fee of at least €7 million (£6 million) plus bonuses, and the striker is now set to finalise his personal terms and undergo his medical.

August Priske will be an interesting addition to Chris Davies’ offensive options in Birmingham City.

Blues have had a disappointing season, finishing 14th, eight points behind the play-offs with 19 games remaining, despite the club’s well-documented objectives.

Jay Stansfield and Marvin Ducksch currently have 14 league goals between them, while Kyogo Furuhashi’s two goals since his eight-figure transfer from Rennes have come in cup games, which remains a worrisome concern.

As a result, the arrival of Priske will delight Bluenoses, as the Danish youth international scored 18 goals last season and still has plenty of time to fulfill his potential.

He has also been labeled as a “complete forward,” which means that, in the short term, his presence could be a welcome relief to the club’s issues with creative production.
