Sky planned a huge crackdown on ‘dodgy’ Fire Stick owners, naming 17 UK locations.

Owners of jailbroken Amazon Firesticks have been warned of a potential £50,000 fine.

Sky Sports is now partnering with the Federation Against Copyright Threat (FACT) to combat illicit streaming of their services.

The broadcaster is the home of the EFL in the United Kingdom, and their current contract runs until the end of the 2028/29 season.

Sky will broadcast nearly 1,000 EFL matches throughout their current arrangement, which began in 2024.

However, some users may access their channels via jailbroken firesticks, allowing them to bypass the subscription limitations and watch the EFL and Sky Sports’ other content without paying the monthly cost.

Sky warns of jailbroken Firestick crackdown.

Sky has issued a warning to begin the new year that they will be working with FACT to crack down on the use of jailbroken firesticks, which could result in large fines for anyone found guilty.

They are seeking criminal damages under Section 11 of the 2006 Fraud Act to protect their intellectual property from theft, potentially impacting 17 areas in the UK.A Sky representative told the Daily Mail that the company invests much in securing its content, including taking action against individuals who view without a subscription. We, of course, guarantee that whatever action we take is in accordance with all applicable laws.”

Anyone found guilty in this crackdown might face a punishment of up to £50,000, as Sky and FACT attempt to defend themselves.

17 UK locations will be targeted in the firestick crackdown.

As part of the crackdown on illicit firesticks, 17 regions in the United Kingdom will now be specifically targeted.

According to the Sport Industry Report 2026, 58% of fans and 66% of industry professionals believe that using stolen firesticks is socially acceptable.

However, locations such as London, Kent, Sussex, and Norfolk will be targeted as part of plans to phase out their use throughout the United Kingdom.

The Daily Record will also examine the following 13 areas: Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, East and West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Northumbria, North Yorkshire, South Wales, North East England, and North West England.

Sky Sports stated in 2024 that they had agreed to pay £895 million for the rights to broadcast the EFL in the UK and Ireland, plus a further £40 million for marketing.

That amounts to an annual payment of £187 million for the broadcaster, which will be split among the clubs.

A Sky Sports membership, which includes access to the EFL, costs £22 per month and is subject to a 24-month commitment with the firm.

Given the current increase in the expense of living, it is not surprising that fans are turning to this means to watch their team every week.

Sky will broadcast 328 Championship matches, as well as 248 League One and League Two games.
